This was originally @quacktasm âs idea, and I couldnât resist. This is probably my last Zircons AU ever (I guess I have to many and itâs time to stop spamming this). Note: I watched just a good ending of DBH. This AU barelly connected with the main plot. It happens in some other USA city. YZ is Russian and I love this a lot.
YZ lived in Russia till she turned 18-20, and then it turned out that her grandmother in America died and left her an inheritance. So, she moved to America. YZ is a lawyer and opened a small office there. She never wanted to share a business with someone, but it became hard for her to lead it alone, she needed help with the finances and documents. Therefore, she takes an Android to help.
BZ is an Android, whoâs program is supposed to help with work and accounting. With her, YZâs life becomes easier, and sometimes YZ even forgets that BZ is a machine and doesnât understand much. For example, BZ takes absolutely all the jokes literally, and this creates confusion.
BZ learns, and tries to better understand YZ for better productivity, but it is not always possible to understand the ârussian soulâ. Annoyed YZ curses in Russian, and translating it is often very difficult. Also YZ is both good and bad at self-care. Sheâs always neat and has a perfect make-up, but can get out of the office without a coat and a hat and even not notice it.
In BZâs program there is no âcareâ for people (like some Androids for families), but YZ notices that her Android cares not only about business, but also about YZ. YZ is not used to this, and at first says âstop doing itâ because they are not friends. BZ stops for a couple of days, but then does it again, and YZ just⊠accepts it.
Once she shared her duties for work. YZ was tired, and made a mistake in the documents. The client thought that it was an Android error, and started yelling that âthis piece of plastic is useless and you should turn it off.â YZ has the pride to admit her mistakes, and she is sternly responding to the client that her Android didnât do anything wrong.
Self-learning, BZ completely adapts to YZ - remembers her habits and manner of speaking, sometimes even can predict what she will do. They begin to communicate so easily that the relationship between YZ and BZ changes from a cold âman-machineâ to simple âfriends.â
YZ sometimes goes too deep in her thoughts, and doesnât look around. Once, at the traffic light, she does not notice red, and almost goes out onto the road. BZ pulls her back, and YZ first wants to scold BZ for doing something she wasnât asked about, and then realizes that she has just saved her life. âYou donât have a program to save me, but still you do it every time. Thank you.â
BZ notices that when YZ has time to eat in the morning, she works better and takes just a little break for lunch, and if she doesnât eat in the morning, she feels bad. Sometimes BZ starts to make food in advance if she sees that YZ doesnât have time. âCyberlife didnât say anything about you having skills in cookingâ. âI had to download a couple of thousand recipes and lessons from the network, nothing special.â
If on the street they meet protesters against Androids, YZ tries to avoid them as carefully as possible so that they donât hurt BZ, because the protesters can attack. âAre you worried about me?â âI have no money for your repair.â This is a lie, because YZ knows that if BZ breaks something inside her, she will be ready to give a lot of money to fix her.
One day BZ brings an abandoned kitten to the office. âWhy did you bring it?â ââŠ.. I do not have instructions in the program how to take care of animals, so I thought that you know âŠâ âNo. Iâm not talking about this. In your program there is nothing about helping animals. But you decided to help. Iâm curious, why⊠Okay, letâs see what we can do.â (the kitten is their child now)
When the revolution of Androids begins, the State demands to give all Androids for the deactivation. YZ is strongly against it, and never agrees to just give BZ for recycling. âYouâre going to kill me, Blue?â âOf course not. I always believed that weâre⊠well⊠ââ Friends. Partners. Fuck them, Iâm not gonna give them my Android, who has never done anything wrong.â
YZ hides BZ until the revolution ends, and until it is announced that the Androids will have equal rights with people. Androids call on their congeners to join them and live in a separate city. YZ asks BZ if she wants it. BZ says âI would like to live among my people, but I think youâll get under the car or forget to eat the next day. So if you do not mind, Iâll stay.â
âWhy the hell are you so cold?â
âSorry, I was designed as an office assistant, I do not have a built-in heating module andâŠâ
âShut up, I just need a hug.â
