She’s careful in the placement of the flower – fretting over it every two seconds before finally, finally leaving the poor potted plant alone – and it shows. She’s going to cherish this orchid until it dies (a thought that leaves her heartbroken before she even has the chance to push the stray thought off to the side.) The teasing continues and she turns, leaning back against the counter and stretching her legs out in front of her. Elbows rest comfortably on the marble and she reclines her upper body, head tilting to the side. She’s smiling at him.
“ Not many are brave enough to tease a
woman in her own home, Eli. “
She knows the sort of effort he’s gone through to get the flower. There are few orchids that only bloom during certain months, all of which are incredibly difficult to obtain. Especially if it’s an endangered flower. Her gaze slides from him back to the flower, tucked protectively against the window. To go through so much effort for a house-warming gift…
He’s not as smooth at covering his blush as he thinks, as when her eyes do finally return to his face, she can definitely pinpoint every single freckle upon his flushed skin.
“ Oh, have I embarrassed you, Eliwood? “
❝ They ought to be braver. I like to think every
girl deserves to feel good about themselves. ❞
God, you sound like such a womaniser right now. Which, really, probably wasn’t too far from the truth. You liked attractive women ─ and she was certainly that. And you’re over here, standing some paces from her and blatantly flirting your ass off because you have almost no self control. That wasn’t to say you weren’t genuinely interested in Amberly ─ she knew her way around sprouts and shrubs, flower pots and all things you immersed yourself in daily. She knew what she was talking about with her Grass-types and you absolutely enjoyed speaking with her. It wasn’t hard for you to be willing to go to some greater length just for the chance to see Amberly. You’re not half as slick as you would like to be ─ she’s caught a glimpse of the colour staining your cheeks before you had the chance to force it down. Oh, you’re such a mess, Eli. All you could do is lift a soft laugh when she’s pointed out the fluster to your cheeks, and that hardly did you an favours in denying it.
❝ Mm, non. Non, not in the slightest. ❞
You rub your face again, less inclined to hide the fact that you’re trying to ignore the fact that you’re getting embarrassed. This wasn’t the first girl you’ve spoken to, let alone the first one you’ve shown interest in, or anything of the sort. Get yourself together, man. So, you turn the topic away from you, and you point it to work. Something you’ve had your suspicions about, because let’s be honest, you liked Amberly but you wouldn’t come to Kanto just for her. You were certain there was a reason why your new clients were so insistent on having you travel for a wedding.
❝ You know, I had a meeting with a young couple
earlier this week to help their wedding planner with the
flower arrangements. I don’t usually take jobs like this,
but the groom-to-be was so intent on having me be their
florist, I found myself unable to say no to him.
When I arrived and met with them ─ and a lovely couple, they are ─
I just couldn’t help but wonder if someone had a little play
in convincing him of my talent. ❞
