snow’s “I hate mockingjays because they exist despite the capitol’s intent” and maysilee’s “I hate mockingjays because they’re part mutt and I dont want anything that has to do with the capitol” and haymich’s “I think they’re resilient and stand for surviving against all odds” and katniss’s “mockingjays remind me of my father and the other district 12 tributes before me and though they mean resistance to others, nobody can take that away from me” which brings us back to lucy gray’s “nothing you can take from me was ever worth keeping”

I appreciate that Suzzane Collins always humanizes the tributes in the arena, even the Careers that are often the “villains”.

That scene where Silka is all alone, finds the tree Haymitch and Wellie are in, and just sits there and cries. That moment of solidarity when Haymitch drops the chocolate down to her. That reminder that they are all just kids who are either brainwashed or forced to be violent.

The other tributes are never the real enemy.

i know the sotr movie hasn’t even come out yet and thinking about a potential next book is wild and borderline greedy, but i just can’t help myself. especially when it comes to tigris, my beloved! it genuinely confuses me that dr. gaul and lucky flickerman are name dropped in sotr but not tigris?!?! and even lucy gray gets mentioned which i never in a million years expected!! president snow has a full on lucy gray crash out and haymitch sees her performance on tv… but still no tigris?!?? suzanne even sets up the scene perfectly with magno being a shitty and negligent stylist and they’re all “oh noooo whatever will we do without a stylist” i was SURE tigris snow herself, probably a career stylist who decides to step in and help out poor little district 12, would come to the rescue, but INSTEAD ITS EFFIE (though i was happy to see her and LOVED the proserpina big sister twist, don’t get it twisted)?!?

it just feels like her leaving tigris out is intentional idk idk idk!!!!! maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

not to mention, plutarch is also very suspicious in sotr. i’m a plutarch is the mc of the next book truther just based on all the eagles in his house alone. suzanne loves her birds and their imagery. eagles and freedom. remember when haymitch getting geese at the end of mockingjay was super random??? also plutarch telling haymitch he “has a friend in district 12” who helped him set up the phone call with lenore dove. LIKE??? who the hell is that?!

very interesting to think about, but i love the sotr epilogue so much that if it is the last hunger games book, i’ll be happy<333

I love that canonically, Lenore Dove’s hatred of Peacekeepers always wins out against her shyness. She can’t sing in front of people without her throat closing up from how nervous she is, but put her in an interrogation room and she’ll look Peacekeepers dead in the eye and tell them she couldn’t have possibly burned the Capitol flag because she was at home writing her will in case she got reaped. And then she proceeded to read them an actual seven page document she wrote where she leaves all her possessions to her geese just to fuck with them and waste time. I’m obsessed with her.

there’s something equally heartbreaking and heartwarming about lucy gray teaching the hanging tree to maude ivory, barb azure, clerk carmine, and tam amber and clerk carmine and tam amber teaching it to lenore dove and lenore dove teaching it to burdock and burdock teaching it to katniss and prim and katniss leading a whole rebellion with it. lucy gray will always be famous thanks to her covey birds (i’m so emotional)

She's so funny. Haymitch tells them about Lenore Dove, and Katniss decides all on her own that what Haymitch wants is to raise geese in honor of his dead girlfriend, doesn't ask him about this at all, just goes out and gets the eggs and hands them to him out of the blue. Meanwhile Haymitch is looking at the eggs going "did any of these belong to last night's dinner, by any chance?"

But he takes them anyway because Katniss is, of course, entirely correct. Haymitch does want to raise geese in honor of his dead girlfriend.

And Katniss leaves this out of her own narrative entirely. Obviously the out-of-universe reason is that the author only thought of it later, but it is also very funny to conceptualize this in-universe as Katniss just not wanting to admit that she did something nice for Haymitch because she cares about him.

One thing I love about sotr is how much Haymitch and Maysilee matched each others capitol hating freak. Them deciding to paint their own posters, deciding to be loose canons and as wild as their horses, deciding to be rebellious victors, and not allowing themselves to be treated like animals

Maysilee said "jump", and Haymitch said "how high?"
