it feels a little funny writing a birthday letter to someone who would probably shrug and tell me birthdays are "just another day." that's one of the things i've always adored about you—you never ask for much even as a man who didn't grow with much to begin with. you carry yourself so quietly that it's easy to overlook just how much you've endured, how much you've sacrificed and how much of yourself you've tucked away behind a crooked grin and a dry joke. but today, i don't want to think about the weight you've carried. i just want to celebrate you.

i hope somewhere in whatever corner of the universe your story lives, you're taking it easy. maybe you've got a plate piled high with food you didn't pay for, a cigarette between your fingers, jet pretending he doesn't care that it's your birthday while secretly making your favorite meal ( bell peppers and beef ˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶ ), and ed going absolutely crazy bonkers with the confetti cannon. i'd like to imagine you're laughing a little more than usual.

i talked with vas about what celebrating spike's birthday would look like between us and she ended up loosely illustrating it which she did not have to do omg!! i screamed, i love her so much oqhfksnd!! it looks as though he took this picture himself while i was caught completely off-guard ₍₍⚞(⸝⸝>⸝⸝<⸝⸝)⚟⁾⁾

i don't think spike would desire any super flashy event for his birthday, so it'd be spent by the pool table in some private space on the bebop with a cold glass of whiskey in hand! keep in mind i don't have a single clue how to even play pool, so he'd absolutely mop the floor with me haha! 🎱 i feel it'd become less about the game and more about stealing enamored glances at each other between turns, listening to the clack of billiard balls echo through the room while we talked about anything and everything. it's such a simple date, but that's exactly why i love it! no grand celebrations, no fancy plans—just existing beside him in the quiet, learning something new, and reveling another year of my man 𖹭
