Iron Glazes
Glazes rich in iron, such as tenmoku, oil spot, and hare's fur, originate in China. Using a long soak at a high temperature during firing, iron forms visible crystal patterns. Dependent on glaze chemistry, reduction or oxidation kiln atmosphere, and thickness of application, different patterns can appear.
Featured today will be several examples.
