saving what you have: visible mending
Visible mending is a way to fix clothes with holes in a decorative way. Instead of trying to make the mend invisible as possible, it can be fun and creative to hi light the tears and holes with stitching that adds to the garment. I think this method is super cool to repair clothes you may really want to keep but also make more beautiful.
There are many techniques to mending clothes and here are some popular techniques that will help you save your clothes and also reduce your consumption of fast-fashon!
darning
The embroidery technique used to repair holes in fabric by using running stitches and thread woven in-between those stitches to repair a hole. If you’re interested in employing this stitch, check out this awesome darning tutorial by Evelyn Wood!
sashiko
This type of traditional Japanese mending practice is used to reinforce the strength of fabric as well as decorate. It is a great solution for mending holes with patches and well to reinforce thinning fabric! For learning the basics of Sashiko there is a wonderful beginners tutorial by Benzie Design.
patches
Patches are very versatile when used for repairing clothes. You can sew it over a hole in your fabric or you can also so the patch in the inside to have it peek out. There is a great tutorial for custom DIY patches by wastelesscrafts and Creating with misp has a tutorial on mending with a peek-through patch.
happy mending!
I made a tutorial for my chubby Rocky plush!
You should totally make your own little pal :)
Feel free to ask me stuff if anything’s unclear!

2,300-Year-Old Plush Bird from the Altai Mountains of Siberia, c.400-300 BCE: this figure was crafted with a felt body and reindeer-fur stuffing, all of which remains intact
This plush bird was sealed in the frozen barrows of Pazyryk, Siberia, for more than two millennia. It's remarkably well-preserved, thanks to the unique conditions in which it was buried; the permafrost ice lense formation that runs beneath the site served as an insulating layer, preventing the soil from heating during the summer and allowing it to quickly freeze during the winter, which helped to produce a separate microclimate within the stone walls of the barrows, aiding in the preservation of the artifacts inside.
This is just one of the many well-preserved artifacts that have been found at Pazyryk, and it's attributed to the Scythian/Altaic cultures.

I'm currently working on a video on how this bird is assembled and a pattern, as best as I can manage. It will take me time, and I ask for people to be patient with me. I will post the pattern up for free on my Ko-Fi as soon as its available
As promised, video and pattern!
The pattern link is below, the pattern is free to download. If you do, I just ask that you please credit me for the original pattern
This swan plush pattern is based on a 2400 year old stuffed swan found in Siberia. Please note that this pattern is "as is" , and is in t

Hey, m'dears.
Since TFNation tickets are on sale today I think it's time to reveal that I won't be tabling at TFN this year. I'll reopen my etsy later in the year with new stock but as for TFN I'll just be a fellow con-goer.

Heads up on some fucked up spam comments going around AO3 - a friend just got a comment claiming the commenter had their name and address and was adding them to a list of ICE agents. Any comment claiming to have your personal information is a scam designed to panic you into engaging with it. Report, delete, and consider locking your fic comments to registered users only.
i do have to say that no matter how shitty any sort of media is or how shitty your own creations are. always remember
Sewing machine maintenance is a necessary part of a quilter’s routine for trouble-free stitching. Watch our video to learn how to clean your
When was the last time you cleaned your sewing machine? It's a simple task, and something I do between projects. Have you noticed your thread tangling or tearing? Stitches being skipped? A funky noise that shouldn't be there? Chances are your machine needs to be cleaned. Cleaning it will prevent it from breaking down and requiring repairs, and that can get very expensive.
Just a reminder to clean your machine. This is mine after finishing the quilting of a table runner and piecing the current one. If your machine is skipping stitches or the bobbin thread isn't behaving. Check your machine. It may just need some cleaning.
Just a friendly reminder to clean your sewing machine.
And oil it, if it's one that requires oiling!

I've been doodling lalafells today! Love these silly little dears.
Metem and Lumull are two of my favourite Dawntrail lalas.
this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!
woah this got big!! and after another try i have another untested tweak for yall. this should help the weird pinchy side seams out. yey
My first attempt! I made the pattern a bit smaller as I wanted it to be able to fit in a pocket, but then (accidentally but perhaps unavoidably) sewed it with a wider seam allowance than the resized pattern indicated, so the face is proportionally a bit too big and I lost some detail in the ear shape. I'm pleased with it though! It was fun to make something and to do some handsewing.
SOO CUTE AND TINIE 😭
I tried this pattern a while back to try out some minky and I get no points for making the pattern well but looook at my boyyy
His name is Tofu. Thank you for sharing the pattern I will love him forever
(Tofu looks so good! Love his little moogle costume)
I saw this pattern and whispered "Lil guy" under my breath.
Had to give it a go! I had some Decepticon cotton scraps left over from the dicebags, just enough to make this excellent creature!
hello fellow artists. google has fallen. pinterest/duckduckgo AI filters don't work. do not despair; here is a list i made of places to find reference images without having to sift through piles of worthless garbage. (for future editing convenience i am just linking my blog post on dreamwidth.)
✨ good places to find art reference that are not full of AI trash 🌈
