ok sorry still mad about people misinterpreting a certain Plot Point in the tadc finale so. under the cut

"oh so the trans character kills herself??? this show is transphobic" JESUS CHRIST YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE. Jax repressed himself to the point of abstraction, then Pomni finds a way to reach him even through his broken mental state, and the gang puts him in a safe and comfortable blanket fort where s/he can relax and get his senses back in order without hurting himself or others. The other abstractions get to be seen being happy and at peace. No it's not IDEAL but it's basically like having a mental break that just needs some care and attention instead of Cellar. We do not see any Abstractions get fixed but the episode does leave it open-ended as to how much they will one day be able to be reached, and the characters have eternity to figure it out. Jax finally opens up to Pomni in that headspace and it's far from impossible she can still talk to him in this state.

it's also not like Jax is the only trans/queer character. Zooble is nonbinary/genderqueer and makes it through the entire show, is given emotional depth and weight to their own dysphoria and character struggles, and then gets to end the show with their human self opening a successful (implied) queer bar and their digital self having epic gay sex!! (entire theater cheered and clapped at that btw)

like. look me in the eyes. do you think that a trans woman show creator would write a trans woman character just to kill her out of malice?? like do you think she was maybe trying to say something with the abstractions and Jax's repression and the fact there is still hope and time for him and his human self?? are we operating on this level of media literacy or are we just looking for things to get mad at

I really like Gangle a lot, and we have a lot in common.

The reason I gave her bacon with the toast is cuz I thought it would be painfully American, and it kind of looks like her ribbons, so unless Gangle is actually Kosher or Halal or something, I will continue to think this is a very funny observation. I don't eat nor like bacon though.

So about transfem jax and episode 9

Personally I feel like this show isn’t one where everything needs to be perfectly spelled out for the audience.

I think Goose’s intentions were pretty clear and she doesn’t have to outright confirm anything especially when it’s something THIS supposedly personal.

You can have your own opinions and they are valid, but depiction ≠ endorsement.

Like I said though, you don’t have to agree with the way she went about it. I just think she probably wanted it to be more subtle if intentional (which I do think it is) and an experience anyone could see themselves in. And besides, Zooble is right there and fine.

Like yeah Jax kind of sucks and has been horrible and even an abuser at times to characters like Gangle, and I call him an ashole and a horrible person all the time. But like, that’s kind of the point, he became that way over time, he became LIKE his mother but to other people without even realising it as a defensive mechanism, the irl Jax didn’t do any of that, Circus Jax IS a cautionary tale of what COULD have happened to him. He essentially made the wrong decision at every turn because of his fear and trauma and it turned out the way it did.

I’m oversimplifying a bit but yeah I’m done talking about this.

okay so. i’m seeing a lot of critiques of jax’s character and i agree with a lot of them but what i don’t agree with is that she’s a bad portrayal of transness.

i think she’s a cautionary tale. her inability to reach out for help or be honest with who she is as a trans woman is what led to her death. staying closeted and closed off and cruel is what led to her death. the inability to be honest with herself or with others is what led to her death

yes it is tragic that a trans woman died. but that’s the point. the point is that in her last moments she realized she would’ve been loved and accepted. in her last moments all that was there was that pink streetlight that she couldn’t snuff out and the one girl that never gave up on her even when she should have

the message is to be true to yourself. no amount of repression can change who you are, and that repression will kill you
