9. After getting sick.
Sweat dripped from Craig’s pale face, his clammy hands gripping the trash can he just emptied the contents of his stomach into. “I mean, I could be better.” He heaved and covered his mouth. “Ugh…” He shivered and held the garbage bin closer. His black hair clung to his hot forehead. Maybe he should have stayed home.
“You uh… Didn’t have to come over and study, dude. If you were sick, I’d have even done your homework for you… But now I’m not letting you leave now. I’m taking care of you until you’re better.” He said, brushing his hair out of his face.
Craig sighed. “I know, I know. But, consider this: finals are Tuesday. I am not missing any study time. There is no way in hell I’m going to summer sch-” His sentence stopped abruptly as he wretched into the trashcan again. “You don’t have to take care of me. I can just head home.”
“You will go nowhere! That will only make you more sick! I am gonna quiz you while you lay down and you can quiz me back until you get tired and fall asleep.” He smiled, “And before you sleep, I’ll make you soup!”
“Dude, I’m just gonna get you sick. Thanks for the offer, but I don’t want to give you the stomach flu.” His usually sharp, bright blue eyes were dull and dark. His expression looked sunken and weak.
“You’re not moving!” He puffed his cheeks and stomped his much smaller foot, “And right now I’ve got more strength than you do. I’ve survived far worse than flu. I’ll be fine. You just focus on reading while I get you some water.”
He sighed and laid back, propping himself up against some pillows. “Alright, alright. I can’t argue too much, I guess. Thanks, man.” He replied weakly, looking up at Andrew.
He frowned as he looked at the sick guy before him. He walked out of the room for just a moment before he returned with a cold compress and a glass of water, “Here. You need these. You’re burning up.”
Craig cleared his throat and nodded weakly, reaching for the cold compress. “Thanks. I like to think I look pretty hot, too.” He winked jokingly, taking the compress into his hands.
Drew blushed, turning his head and lightly shoving the other and giggling, “Shut up! You’re such a dork. D-Drink your water!! I’m gonna make soup…” He gulped and smirked as he walked out of the room.
He laughed and pressed the cold compress to his forehead. “Sure, Drew. And thanks for all this.” He sighed and settled back into bed as Andrew left the room.
About a half hour passed by before the boy returned with some noodles in a homemade broth, “It’s my grandmas recipe. I hope you like chicken noodle.” He smiled, handing him the bowl, “Also… It’s only Saturday. Why don’t you and I sleep after you eat and then we can get an early start on studying. Hm?” He suggested.
Craig stared at the ceiling blankly until the boy returned. He weakly turned his head toward Drew. “You can never go wrong with chicken noodle, thanks for making this.” He took the warm bowl into his clammy hands. Craig inhaled deeply. “It smells great.” He listened to Andrew and nodded. “Yeah, no, I’m all for sleeping the rest of today.”
