Strangled for Being Too Sexy

In Pakistan, a brother murdered his sister for her provocative videos on social media.

Religion. Culture. Misguided honour. Frustrated ambitions. Disenchanted young men. Lost generation. 

It all boils down to fear: Fear of losing one’s place in the world. A boy’s fear that he is not man enough to run his sister’s life and modesty. A girl’s fear that speaking up with cost her her reputation and life. A parent’s fear that they have to bury their children, and having nobody to say the last rites when their turn comes.  So much fear in this world. Every.Single.Day, we hear, read and watch fear running amok in our world. When a brother kills his sister. When a truck mows down pedestrian. When a man blows himself up in a crowded space. When one lone person guns down people in a public area.

There is *never* any honour in taking another life. Never.

NYTimes: After Attacks on Muslims, Many Ask: Where Is the Outpouring? Reading this article and given the past week's events, i.e. bombing in Turkey and Baghdad and massacre in Dhaka, as well as call to arms in India, I'm wondering maybe the hashtag #PrayForIslam should be trending. #PrayForIslam, that it'll find peace in this month of Shawal. #PrayForIslam, that its people will walk the true path of peace and tolerance in accordance to the true Prophet's teachings. #PrayForIslam, that families do not experience any more heartache, pain and loss. #PrayForIslam, that the next generation grows up without memories of war, strife, displacement and loss. #PrayForIslam, that neighbors live amiably and amicably, united against all that brings destruction to their way of life. Bible study with mom at #SacredHeartKL. I came with a bible, notebook, pens (in case one runs out!), and water bottle. Mom shows up with NO bible, NO stationery (not even a pen!), and NO notebook (not even a paper!). Mom: Don't worry. I've got kaki here. The Sunday school and RCIA coordinators are here. I'm sure one of them brought their keys to the bible cabinet. Also, I can always borrow your notes to photostat! Planning A Getaway...

Who knew planning a 5-day vacation can be so challenging?! Me: Bali? Pal: Been there. What about Cambodia? Me: Done. And we've both done Myanmar. Well, only certain parts... Pal: But it's high summer during that time. It's gonna be hot! Me: Ok. Maybe not. Pal: You've already seen Laos? Me: Yeah. And Vietnam too. Taipei? Pal: Done. I don't mind Australia if it's the other cities... Both: Nah. It's only 5 days. Not worth it. Pal: Mauritius? ((silence while we check airfares and weather)) Me: Weather looks ok but the fare is more expensive than going to Europe at the end of the year! Pal: Ok. Maybe not.
