LIZZIE (2018)
1. Kristen Stewart… do you actually need another reason to watch this?
2. Kristen Stewart plays a cool lesbian murderer… you need a third reason??
3. QUICKITY SPLIT HISTORY LESSON: Lizzie Borden is a woman who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an ax at the end of the 19th century. Since this was a hundred years ago, you literally could get away with murder if no one saw you do it, so Lizzie was never officially put on the stand for a verdict in the case. To this day, it remains a mystery as to who killed the Bordans, and if the killer was - in fact - Lizzie. She’s the lady behind the child’s rhyme “Lizzie Borden had an ax…”. Aren’t you glad I ruined your childhood, if it wasn’t ruined already?? :)
Flash foreward to now - idk if any of you assholes have seen the Christina Ricci version of this movie… I’m pretty sure that one is a tv special and its several hours long (also recommend because let’s face it - Christina Ricci is our childhood KStew… or at least she was mine). But that version is def v spooky v scary; VERY much wow Lizzie probably did it and she’s a psycho. Most renditions of this story paint Lizzie Borden as a woman who went off the rails - a heartless killer. This movie is INCREDIBLE because it offers a new perspective on the story. It shows the potential sexual and emotional abuse that went on in the household between the father and his daughter Lizzie and also to the housemaid (our lord and savior.. KStew). The actress who plays Lizzie (Chloë Sevigny) I guess has been working on the concept for this film for almost a decade or so??? Like she was really trying to portray the messed up situation that Lizzie could have been in back then. I don’t remember if the other film(s) left it a mystery but this one is straight up YES SHE KILLED THEM… AND THEY FUCKING DESERVED IT!!!! 8/10
