Andreil make me wish that love is real
Neil and Andrew’s coping mechanisms for a bad day are the exact opposite.
Neil cannot sit still, he needs to be doing something, doing anything to stop his mind from thinking run run run. He will deep clean the house, do laundry, do anything productive, any excuse to stay.
Andrew needs to preserve as much energy as possible. He is fighting an uphill battle that he cannot see the end of. He will stay in bed, cocooned with as many blankets as possible, as many barriers to the outside world as he can accept.
At the end, the bad days will eventually end.
Neil standing at the stove and cooking dinner in (x) amount of years with his phone propped up on the counter so he can FaceTime Jean who is walking him thru the recipe. Neil having to over and over get a cat down off the counter while Jean is visibly being jostled by dogs knocking against his legs and waist. Neil commenting how Jean should learn how to tell Jeremy no when he asks for a new dog every week (it isn’t that often but this is Neil we’re talking about) and Jean snapping back that Neil ought to keep his ‘disgusting felines’ off his countertops. They argue and banter with each other but it’s such a natural, common occurrence by that point that it takes them no time at all to get back on track and Jean finishes teaching Neil the recipe. They hang up and later that night Neil sends Jean a pic of Andrew’s stamp of approval (an empty plate) and Jean thousands of miles away smiles to himself, lying in bed with Jeremy on his chest and fast asleep. Jean sends a pic of the pack of dogs sleeping at their feet and Neil responds promptly with “Yeah alright, I guess they’re kind of cute.” Neil sends back a pic of the cats and that’s their way special way of saying goodbye for the next week; they’ll repeat the cycle in another seven days when Jean teaches Neil another new recipe out of his giant hand-written book of meals and dishes.
Kevin day always calling Neil the day right after just to know how Jean is doing and Neil never calling him out because he understands and Neil knows Jean knows but this is the only way they can keep in touch but maybe one day Jean will send Kevin a text just a healthy recipe with no context and Kevin will just say thanks and that will be it but that’s something
when writing kevin ships i feel like there should be more exploration (this is for myself, too, bc i haven't really done this either) of how spending the majority of his life being treated as a piece of property with no autonomy impacts his relationships. and tbh it doesn't even have to be romantic relationships exclusively
like think about his relationship with andrew, whether you ship them or not. andrew values consent over... like, everything? but i doubt kevin feels the same way. why? because he spent years being taught that his consent didn't matter. he's probably even worse with neil "always yes" josten because half the time he just won't answer. (maybe in the nest answering made things worse, regardless of if he said yes or no.)
and think about kevin and jean. honestly, i think they would be better with each other just because of their mutual understanding. they have a history of being on much more even footing with each other (both being abused by others but not abusing each other, i mean - there were 100% still power imbalances between them), which i think makes it easier for them to establish healthier dynamics. with andrew and the other foxes, kevin's brain probably either defaults to "my consent doesn't matter" or 'learns' over time that it doesn't matter. the foxes tell him not to talk about history? he doesn't, because he does what he's told. andrew asks him yes or no? he just sits there, nods without speaking, because that's all he knows to do.
because he was taught that accepting his fate as a piece of property, an asset over a person, was the only way to keep himself safe.
But on the other hand, his relationship with Andrew helps him learn consent. Andrew would insist that Kevin understands and knows his own boundaries before anything else.
Maybe in the beginning Kevin needs familiarity and Andrew is too high on meds to do anything but be what Kevin needs at the moment. But then Andrew would teach Kevin and that he is his own person first and foremost.
“wish you were sober” kandrew. kevin, seeing glimpses of the man andrew is beneath the medication. his potential, not just for exy, but to be a real person that kevin cares about and can care for him in return. letting him play off his meds, allowing andrew to have as much control as possible. andrew, watching as kevin self-destructs with his alcoholism. wanting to intervene but feeling that it isn’t his place. kevin, wasted and begging andrew not to leave him, and andrew doing everything he can to comfort kevin without crossing boundaries. because he does care, he can care now, he is sober and kevin is only getting worse.
After seeing this post I immediately opened ao3 and wrote it so here’s it :
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
It is happier and more hopeful than the tone of your post but regardless I hope you enjoy!
Andrew Joseph Minyard, the “psychopath” and “sociopath”, the leader of the monsters, the one put on mandatory drugs by the court for assaulting five men, carry knives with him at all times, never smile or show much emotions, the “unpredictable” and the “foxes deadliest investment”.
Yet he is the normal one in the relationship
What if I say wolverine is Andrew and Neil is deadpool
Actually Andrew is Spider-Man and Neil is deadpool
honestly aftg only works because of how unhinged neil is at any given time. boy makes the worst choices at any given time but always stumbles out of it alive somehow. when the world is destroyed by a nuclear holocaust the only things to survive once the dust has cleared will be cockroaches, twinkies, and neil fucking josten
And Andrew and the foxes because you think Neil would let them die?
so many iconic important secondhand foxes moments in TGR. i’m thinking…

ANDREWS TRIAL
So grateful and blessed that Nora wrote this like it feels like she wrote this for us I’m so thankful and lucky
Crazy how the second book of the sunshine court comes out on Kevin’s birthday effectively making Kevin’s birthday secondary to everything that’s going on in this fandom oh Nora you brilliant sick bastard
MINOR THE GOLDEN RAVEN SPOILER
Nora saw how desperate we are for Andrew crumbs and this time she gave us a whole feast I’m so grateful Nora thank you😭🙏🙏
Ok so all four books are about four months each.
- Foxhole Court: April, first chapter. May 12th to August 26th (three and a half months)
- Raven King: August 31st to January 1st (4 months). September 9th Fall banquet. December 16th Winter banquet
- Kings Men: January 3rd to April 27th (4 months. I look on wiki for the championship game so if that's wrong let me know!)
- Sunshine Court: March 14th to end of June (3 and a half months)
If the Golden Raven continues with the pattern we will get August through November at least. Which also means Fall banquet and Thanksgiving break. Edit: and Jean's Birthday (thank you for that reminder @tessasilverswan !)
Fictional characters can commit any crimes (murder cannibalism arson torture) but I draw the line at cheating (and rape)
I think the only thing the aftg fandom ever done right is never writing the cheating trope with Andreil like I don’t think that’s ever done? This genuinely never crossed my mind until a tweet about cheating trope and I’m like people are into that????
What pisses me off sometimes about aftg fandom is that people are too serious like I get it we love the characters we treat them like real human being BUT they are literally just fictional characters they are flawed and they should not be compared to actual human beings and the arguments are so dumb like
Andrew is so possessive and violent that’s the point
Nicky over steps boundaries that’s the point
Neil has zero self preservation or human sympathy and that’s the fucking point
Kevin is a coward and left Jean and says the wrong thing at the wrong time but that’s he point
Like personally I also love arguing and treating them like human beings and analysing and everything but at the end of the day we should not hold them to actual human beings standards because if we do this takes away the point of it being fiction
