THIS WOMAN I KNOW, her name is Samra. Â She is a journalist, a visual activist and a public speaker.
She has been working on archiving the images and stories of queer Muslims around the world for the past few years in an attempt to document their existence since not much exists in the way of visual proof or their contribution to the LGBTQ history. Â Aside from sharing the stories of a diverse range of queer Muslims around the world, Samra aims to provide a platform for queer Muslim folks to share their personal relationship with Islam and how it impacts their every day lives. Â Whether it be folks who are transgender, Muslim, black or anyone that identifies as queer, she feels it is important to add faces to the very human experiences queer folks of colour face.
Through her work by providing a platform for queer Muslim women and folks of all genders; she is hoping to help queer Muslims heal and help them connect with other queer Muslims around the world who have the same fears, hopes, ambitions and dreams as everyone else, especially if they live in societies that devalue them through racism, Islamophobia, transphobia, homophobia and other types of hatred disguised as laws that makes it painful for folks to be themselves, whether it’s wearing the hijab and not be seen as an oppressed woman because of how one chooses to embrace their faith or being trans and not be punished for using the bathroom that corresponds with the gender they identify with. THIS WOMAN I KNOW, her name is Tara. She is a feminist, a mother and an entrepreneur. Before she became a mother she supported and empowered women through her work at women’s centres, the Advisory Council of the Status of Women, or through other similar organizations. Motherhood changed Tara’s path as a feminist as she now empowers other women by being a working mom, showing her son that women are robust and multi-dimensional, and that women are powerful beyond measure. Through her business, her passions have led her to work with women (and men) in creative fields to help them see the best in themselves. In doing so she hopes that they will become the best and most empowered versions of their true self. Tara is raising her son with intention. With the hope that when he grows into the kind of man who when asked to describe himself will use the word feminist with pride.
For those of you who don’t know..i’ve been working a photo series that features women who empower, support and act as allies to other women.  Go on over to @thiswomaniknow and check it out. <3Â

THIS WOMAN I KNOW, her name is Septembre. She is a Black Woman writer, a parent and a social justice warrior. Septembre empowers women by living boldly in her every day life. She tries to show women that it’s okay to be complex, outspoken OR not outspoken, and to dress however they want no matter what their age. She wants women to embrace their womeness. Sharing her experiences with mental health wellness and her battle with depression and trauma, Septembre hopes to help people feel more secure and to know they are ok, as they are, and they are not alone. Septembre is also a writer. Whether it be about fashion, beauty and lifestyle, or about political issues and current events - she aims to empower women by using her voice unapologetically, and in doing so, make space for other women to use their voices as well.Â
