Clean and Mean: The CRC's Top 3 Appearance Do's and Don'ts
Let’s face it: everyone wants to look good for a job interview! Unfortunately, not every candidate enters the interview looking as presentable (and professional) as they could.
Your friends at the CRC are offering you some advice on hair, makeup, and personal hygiene that will have you looking your best on your big day!
Freshmen Anacorina Aguerrevere and Valentina Vincentelli came prepared for Career Showcase Spring 2012.
Our top 3 tips:
1. Head and Hair:
Since most attention is directed toward a person’s face, men will want to boast either a clean shave or nicely groomed facial hair on the chin and upper lip. Women will want to showcase a nice, modest layer of makeup (or none if you’ve got that all-natural beauty). As far as hairstyles go: keep things simple. Employers want to be looking at you, not your art.
2. Hands:
Why are they important, you ask? To begin, you’ll probably be giving your interviewer a handshake—a nice, firm, confident one, to be exact—and handing them your resume or portfolio, as well. Let’s also not forget that most people talk with their hands, too. Flashing two messes (as opposed to two masterpieces) can be distracting! You’ll help your interviewer stay focused on you and your experience and by washing those bad boys before any interviews you have. Manicures aren’t a bad idea either.
3. Smell:
First, don’t forget your deodorant! If you’re the nervous type, you’ll probably sweat, and no one likes the smell of sweat. If you want something more, consider using some perfume or cologne. But be warned: we’ve all walked by that person who has literally bombed our senses with the products they use, right? This should not be you – at least, not on your interview day.

Good luck!
