Dancing Is For Everyone. Embracing being yourself; Help Men and Women Empower Each Other!
Why is it that men who dance and enjoy dance/movement are often considered to be "gay"? I was thinking about this, while watching "Beto" Perez, the inventor of Zumba, dance. When I watch him, I feel excitement for life and pleasure in seeing a man fully embrace body movements which are largely considered to be "female/gay" - mostly by men. (Think of Diversity, Alex Wong, and other great male dancers) Why is it that men (even boys younger than 10) feel so conscious that dance is not something that is meant for them? I love men who dance, because it means they are in tune with their bodies and what gives them and their lives energy and rhythm - and because they feel secure in themselves to just flaunt their moves and who they are. (Insert your own feeling towards this topic here) I would just like to tell men: Embrace your bodies and let go of expectations. You are just as opressed by outdated traditions and perspectives as women, and we should empower each other. Dance if you feel that your body needs to and wants to. Train yourself to express emotions and energy through movement, if you don't feel confident enough. Or don't do it, if you really feel that it is not a means of expression for you. When you dance you don't need to look sexy. You do not need to prove you are not gay. You do not need to impress women (most likely - they will already be impressed) You don't need to fear about your sexuality, because only you can be secure in that. You don't even have to look cool - all you need to do is feel amazing because you are being you. But PLEASE: DONT EVER KEEP YOURSELF FROM EXPERIENCING AND EXPRESSING LIFE JUST BECAUSE YOU FEEL OTHERS COULD JUDGE YOU! (Personal opinion alert: There are worse things than being/ being thought of as gay or a woman. Imagine you died and never lived life free from the pressure of others' expectations and on your terms - now that would be shocking!) Please share your thoughts - Empower women and men to be who they are and start living together as equals and individuals - expressing/sharing love and enjoying life! Embrace being you (PS: I love the men dancing in this video. And yes, it is there to provoke. :D)
