The Weight of the Wait: A Father’s Journey to Recovery
"They tell you that recovery takes time, but they don’t tell you how much it costs—mentally, emotionally, and financially. I’m currently navigating the aftermath of a serious car accident, and while the physical pain is constant, the heaviest weight is the distance from my children.
Every time we video chat, they ask the same question: 'Dad, can you come pick me up please?' Having to look them in the eye and say 'not yet'—without lying—tears me apart. In those moments, I cling to Psalm 27:13: 'I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.' I have to believe that 'not yet' isn’t 'never.' This is a season of waiting, but it is not the end of our story.
The Silence of Friends
I’ve always been a provider. I’ve always been the one people could call for help. But now that the roles are reversed, I’ve seen a side of 'friendship' no one wants to see. Being left on read by people I never hesitated to help adds a different kind of sting to this journey.
It reminds me of Job 19:14, where he says, 'My relatives have gone away; my closest friends have forgotten me.' It’s a lonely road, but I’ve realized that when the world goes quiet, it’s an invitation to lean harder on the One who never leaves. To those who have reached out: a simple word of encouragement goes further than you know.
The Burden of Provision
Because of my injuries, my income has stopped. I’m following my doctors' and attorneys' advice to stay off work so I don’t jeopardize my recovery or my case, but the bills don’t stop. Rent, food, and my kids' needs don’t wait for a settlement.
I’m not looking for a handout or a 'free ride.' I’m a father who just wants to get back to the two people I live to make happy. I am standing on the promise in Philippians 4:19 that 'God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory.' Sometimes, He uses the hands of others to meet those needs.
How You Can Help
I am asking for your understanding and, if you're able, your support. Galatians 6:2 tells us to 'Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.' Your support helps cover the essentials—housing and groceries—while I focus on the grueling work of healing.
• Donate: Any amount helps us find stability.
• Share: If you can’t give, please share this story.
• Pray: For my strength and for my children’s hearts while we are apart.
Thank you for reading, for understanding, and for helping me get back on my feet so I can finally tell my kids, 'Yes, I’m coming to pick you up.'
The test is great, but the restoration will be greater.
