A short animation on patience and contentment
Wise words by Yasmin Mogahed

THE STORY OF PROPHET AYYUB
The Prophet Ayub (peace be upon him) was a pattern of humility and faith in Allah.  He had many healthy children, cattle, livestock, crop, and houses. Although he possessed extreme wealth, he never once forgot to thank the Lord that gave him his health and valuables. He constantly did philanthropic work within his community. Despite this, Ayub was tested in all his riches, losing everything he had: possession, family, and health. Even a charitable and God-conscious man was put to test with hardships. One day his big farm was raided by the thieves, who killed many of his servants and stole his cattle and livestock. After some time the roof of his house fell down and many members of his family were killed. Then he was tested with regard to his body until there was no part of it that was healthy except his heart. Covered with ulcers and shunned by his own family and friends, Prophet Ayub lived in seclusion with his wife for almost two decades. People who once looked up to and benefited from Prophet Ayub now treated him with no compassion or sympathy. Through all of these trials and tribulations, Prophet Ayub never complained or asked "Why me?" He never shed a tear nor heaved a sigh. He prostrated before the Almighty. He remarked that possessions and children were the gifts from Allah. If He had taken His things, it was useless to lament over their loss. Yazid bin Maysarah said: “When Allah tested Ayub, upon him be peace, with the loss of his family, wealth and children, and he had nothing left, he started to focus upon the remembrance of Allah, and he said: 'I praise You, the Lord of lords, Who bestowed His kindness upon me and gave me wealth and children, and there was no corner of my heart that was not filled with attachment to these worldly things, then You took all of that away from me and You emptied my heart, and there is nothing to stand between me and You. If my enemy Iblis knew of this, he would be jealous of me.' Allah turned to him with mercy. He was commanded to strike the earth with his foot. He complied with the order and water from the spring gushed forth. He took a bath with the water and got cured from his evil disease. After this he was restored to prosperity. Allah had rewarded him for keeping his faith despite the terrible afflictions he had tested him with. The Quran says: "And [mention] Ayub, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed,  adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful." So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder  for the worshipers [of Allah]." (Surah Al-Anbya Verses 83-84) "And surely we try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and crops, but give glad-tidings to the steadfast, who when a misfortune befalls them, say lo! we are Allah's (possession of Allah) and to Him shall we surely return. · Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly-guided." (Surah 2 : Verse 155-157) His example illustrates: that those who remain patient under the stress of all circumstances, are never deprived of high rewards.Â

LEARNING HOW TO BE PATIENT AND CONTENT THROUGH CURRENT EVENTS
Utter despair and havoc grips humanity today. All across the globe humans are facing every kind of challenge imaginable. When our world is in despair, how can we stay strong and steadfast in matters of Deen and Dunya? How can we be patient through massacres? How can we stay content through gut-wrenching poverty and famine? Today in South East Asia a group of Muslims is suffering greatly. The Muslims of Myanmar, the Rohingya, are being massacred in their homeland and are in misery in their new homes. Human trafficking, rape, and murder are abundantly present throughout. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims have been displaced because of oppression. Among these Muslims, some have come forward and revealed their experiences.  Abdul Kadir is one of the Muslims who have spoken out about these atrocities. He says, “We are Rohingya,” “No say Rohingya in Myanmar. No say.” He was an Imam in a northern Rakhine village. The question appears again, how can we stay content? The answer lies in religion. Allah himself tells us “ So be patient. Indeed the promise of Allah is truth”. Allah tells us to be patient. It is a simple world. But the weight of the word and action are heavy. We must trust Allah that he has a plan for us. He knows what we are going through. He knows how much hardship we can take and when we will break. If the creator of all the worlds, the expanding universe, and the 8.7 million species tells us that we are strong enough for every test, how can we not believe him? Prophet Muhammad said, “Look at those who are less fortunate than yourselves, not at those who are better off than yourselves so that you will not belittle the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you” (Al-Mundhiri) As people who have been blessed immensely we must think of those who have not been as fortunate as us. We must think of the Rohingya struggling to find land, the Syrians who are stuck in a seemingly endless civil war, and the Palestinians who have been robbed of their homeland.

Rahámot for Rohingya- What's going on, and what are we doing about it? Crescent’s Humanitarian Statement
Discrimination, hate crimes, raping, torturing, and many other disgusting actions were a part of the daily lives of the minority of Muslims who used to live in Myanmar, and are referred to as the Rohingya people. After these actions did not suffice for the people who looked down upon them, they decided to burn down multiple villages, leaving them homeless and with no possessions. Approximately 1.1 million of the Rohingya people then decided to travel hundreds of miles to Bangladesh and even India for a chance to live life a little better. Although, our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters were not greeted with the contentment they expected to find. Due to the amount of excessive migration, the countries offering shelter became over populated, Refugee camps were the solution, and the Rohingya people are now considered refugees. In some areas, providing resources for these people is banned, which makes living conditions even worse. The Rohingya people now live in a new country where they have to face poverty, limited to none resources, terrible diseases, and they aren't even allowed back into the country they once called home. You might notice that our whole campaign name revolves around the word "Rahámot." This word is in the language of the Rohingya people, and it means grace. With the help of non-profit organizations and including the youth of which our future is depending on, we hope to raise enough money to help as many of our brothers and sisters as possible InshaAllah. Aside from money, we hoping to collect physical resources, including toiletries, canned food, sending care packages, etc. The smallest amount could be of larger value than you think. Let's make the world an easier place to live in, one step at a time. Ameen
