~My Kind of Town~

As she laid down he relaxed, the nature of his species was pack oriented and being around others is what his emotions craved. Lone wolves had a very hard time surviving and for the most part drove the individual into a primal or insane mind state leaving nothing of their formal selfs behind. This could likely be the case for most of the so called stories about werewolves and their bloody past and why they likely attacked for no reason.
â Normal? Like this? You mean the bed? Or the company? ⊠Both about the same. Its been .. Years? When I served under that vampire family I had company. The lords daughter often read to me and thought me to read myself. She had a rather luxurious room with a nice bed. She was very old but her father treated her like his princess. From what I know vampires .. or at least ones as old as he was had a very low chance of having offspring. She was born the way she was and from what she told me her aging had stopped after she had been in her twenties even though she continued to technically age. She was often upset about never having the choice to be what she was and learned to despise her family for it. She didnât agree with their ways and views.. But .. thats just me rambling.. Before that I had a bed. Though it wasnât much of one. It was very long ago. Back then wood, hides, or anything warm were used to construct them. Beds today are very nice.
As for the company.. im enjoying it very much. Like I have said before. I never thought I would talk to another vampire again after what happened to me. But.. Honestly you have changed my opinion.. â
He gave her the best form of a smile as he could given expressions didnât really translate over well. Part of him felt a harbored fear of being betrayed again but another part of him felt .. Something else.
It was weird, adjusting to another presence in her house. Another pair of lungs drawing in air, another heart beating, another person to talk to. She hadnât realized, until sheâd brought him in, how lonely sheâd been .After everything that had happened in Mystic Falls, she hadnât realized how much she needed someone in her life. After Stefan had died, sheâd distanced herself from almost anyone that she might have been able to let in. And nowâŠnow she could feel herself starting to do it again.
Caroline adjusted herself on the bed, making herself more comfortable as she looked over at him. â I never thought Iâd talk to another werewolf again, â She smiled. After Klaus, after Tyler, the whole species had been tainted for her. It was painful, wolves brought pain, on so many levels. But thus far heâd been nothing but kind, civil, gentle almost.Â
â What was it like back then? â The idea of history had always fascinated her. The idea of people knowing what life had been like that many centuries ago. Maybe some day that would be her. The girl who looked back on her far too many years on this earth. â I meanâŠthe people, the culture, the world. â  Â
Long ears twitched hearing her voice speak out to him. The two of them were so much alike but also so vastly different from one another.
â Itâs... Understandable. I honestly never thought I would be speaking on a equal level with a vampire after what happened. â He responded.
He thought about her question and tried to figure out when she meant by â back then â even though he knew deep down what she meant. At least he had hoped he did.
â I would say peaceful and calm but that would be a lie. Times were much simpler then. Each one of the tribe members held roles that helped benefit everyone. Be it hunting, fixing homesteads, making clothing or tools. Or whatever have you. The land was lush and green. There was a certain aura to the air that surrounded you. There wasnât as much ... rushing? As most humans seem to do now? While time and age affects us differently people just felt calmer? Our tribe like a few others were intermingled. Some human and some wolf. Those of us who went through the change and survived it were protectors to the rest of the tribe. We had helped others. Wealthy that dwelled in castles and the like. There was a few times outsiders came by boat to try to overtake our kingdoms and we were asked to help the humans to defend our land. â he told her. He thought deeply into his past. Much of it blurred memories but most of them were pleasant enough.
â Things were ... good. â He told her while trying to think of a word to use to explain how it felt to be there.
He just shook his head again.
â Thatâs all in the past. Itâs nice here. As strange as it sounds I wouldnât rather be anywhere else with anyone else. Plus ... you couldnât get food that quickly or easily just by a phone call away. â He told her then stuck his tongue out.
