“Eh,” the broad yet artificial smile diminished, the chaos of his mood hitting a cold, exhausted, wall. He almost felt cold. Even if Koumei couldn’t see it, even the rukh around him were grey and dull, no, worse, a greyish red. Like something aged, or discoloured paint. In a way, like another form of wind or stagnant air.
Lips curve downward and the grip on the strategist’s shoulder tightens, strong fingertips almost digging into his frail frame like a bite before spontaneously freeing him, Judar had changed his mood again.
“Yeah, you’re happy to see me again.” He takes a step forward and stands before Koumei, blocking his way, or attempting to steal all of his attention, looking into those eyes perpetually adorned with that tired shadow.
“Hey, you better get to work, we got to conquer this place too!” a hand reached out, pointing at Koumei. “And how to get your djinn’s equip to work again. C’mmon, you’re the brains, eh? I wanna hear your plan.” The deceitfully cheerful tone disguised the truth like a joke. Perhaps testing him, perhaps taunting him, or even punishing for not acting as if he was delighted to see the praised magi.
Slowly, as if it were some herculean chore, Koumei inhaled... and then released a long, suffering sigh. The thing about Judar was that, oftentimes, humouring him was the easiest way to proceed. He could become very annoying very quickly if he felt slighted, or even if the mood struck him-- and that was on a good day.
He didn't even try to resist; when Judar stepped in front of him, he simply met the piercing crimson gaze unwaveringly. Conquer, was it?
❝Is it just you and I for now? At this moment, the logistics of attacking this place are beyond us. We have no resources, and can assume that our opponents' resources are infinite. We have limited power, and even if that weren't the case, Dantalion isn't suitable to head an assault of any kind. Such as it is, it would be difficult simply to support you with my djinn.❞
❝I have been doing my research on this place, and the more I learn, the less plausible a "takeover" seems. So, for now, my plan is just that: I'll continue gathering information, and if we're able to gather more people, we can reassess from there. Allies and information are currently the most critical and reasonable aspects to focus on.❞
❝...To be honest,❞ he added, rubbing the back of his neck and finally averting his gaze, as if he were about to let slip a shameful secret, ❝with how far removed this island is from our home, it might not even be worth our time to try to claim it in the first place. I would be interested to hear what my brother thinks, though.❞
