The staring wasnāt missed, and despite his ears turning a warm red from the unwarranted attention, Keito stared back at both Rei and Kuro, his expression a mix of annoyance and confusion. āWhat? Why are you both looking at me like that??ā he asked, clearly oblivious to the implications of him outright calling Rei ābeautifulā. Rei could only make a self-conscious cough behind his closed fist in reply, gaze still averted to the side, which only served to make Keito huff even grouchier in return. How could anyone write about romance and still be clueless about it in real lifeā¦
But, just as Kuro had felt, Keitoās obliviousness to romantic implications were the least of their worries. Rei couldnāt tell on whose side Kuro would eventually end up later, but he could see, sense the redheadās discomfort over the matter in regards to the vampireās blood consumption. However, Rei also wasnāt surprised that Kuro would still stick to Keitoās side of the argument.
āThe children, such good childrenā¦Theyā¦They shouldnāt become involved in this; that is my wish.ā Rei said, strongly shaking his head at the thought of having to take the blood from any of their juniors. āI do not wish to involve anyone else into this matter!ā āWhat are you to do then, wait until you become hungry enough to attack a second time?ā Keito asked, his expression one of cold unbelief. After all, Rei had already slipped off his self-control once; he couldnāt be trusted fully now. āYou might as well make me drink poisonā¦ā Rei muttered under his breath. āNo oneās saying that, Sakuma;ā the mutter didnāt escape Keitoās sharp hearing, āwhy are you being so bull-headedāWe are trying to find a compromise here, canāt you see that?!ā āAnd Iām telling you; I know myself more than anyone! Iām not letting a second incident happen again!ā The look of Keitoās face in response made Rei whine. āPlease, humans shouldnāt get involvedāā āItās a little too late for that now, donāt you think? Youāve already involved me back at the graveyard.ā Keito heaved a weary sigh, taking off his glasses to massage the bridge of his nose before putting them back on. āLook; we donāt want this incident come public either, hence why weāre discussing about taking precautions.ā
āIf you donāt want to involve our juniors,ā Keito glanced towards Kuro, then looked at Rei. āthen you wouldnāt mind involving those who are already involved to become 'designated donorsā, right?ā āWhat do you meanā¦ā āMy offer still stands; take my blood.ā āOh noā¦No, noā¦I canāt; not yours, Hasumi-kun!ā āWhat are you being so picky for? Whatās wrong with my blood?!ā
And then, Kuro just had to mention Madara.
Rei stiffened in response, while Keito outwardly glared in irritation. An awkward silence covered the room, especially after interrupting a heated argument. After a few moments, Rei was the first to speak. āHeāMikejima-kun knows. Iāve refused him every time heād offerā¦ā he answered, almost in a frightened whisper, looking as though Madara was listening in on them. āHe mustnāt know about thisā¦I fear that heāll not stop nor listen anymore now that an 'exceptionā had been made.ā āGreat,ā Keito hissed, clearly annoyed at the information laid out. āJust great! Exactly what we need: a pest!ā
āā¦Can we have him as the blood sacrifice instead?ā āI think not, Hasumi-kun!!ā
Ā Ā Ā And thus, the back-and-forth exchange between childhood friends continued, going somewhere, yet simultaneously nowhere. Between Keitoās insistence on getting involved in Reiās personal affairs and Reiās protests of handling them himself, Kuro could feel himself slowly, but surely losing his patience; both Akatsuki members would be at their witās end trying to reason with the stubborn vampire. The distrust between both parties only grew as they presented their arguments in direct conflict with each other, but it was undeniable that humans were involved now, whether Rei liked it or not. Similarly, Kuro couldnāt simply turn a blind eye to this, regardless of his own feelings on the matter.Ā
Ā Ā Ā His eyes meet Keitoās when he acknowledges that there should be designated donors to regularly provide Rei with blood and without an exchange of words, Kuro already understood. Heād prepared himself for the possibility, even if the thought of becoming a living blood bag for a vampire made him apprehensive. Itās when Keito offers his blood again, however, that triggers a protective response in Kuro, as he places a firm hand upon his shoulder as if to tell him to āstand down.ā Realizing how sudden it mustāve seemed, heās quick to release him with an apologetic look, before returning to the discussion at hand in an attempt to redirect their attention.
Ā Ā Ā ā Figured heād already know... āĀ Unbeknownst to him, that statement would have a double meaning, andĀ Kuro realized that bringing up Madara would be a loaded topic given his relation to those involved in the situation. However, he felt it necessary to bring up, knowing the fallout that could happen between them if the incident came to light. Thus, the redhead can only give Rei a look of disbelief when he admitted that he rejected even Madaraās offer, a testament to just how far Reiās stubbornness went. ā Yeah, but I feel like when it comes to him, it aināt a matter ofĀ āifā, itās a matter ofĀ āwhen.ā Itād be all well and good if you could just acceptĀ āim as the donor from here on out but with me in the picture, it sure complicates things, doesnātĀ it... ā
Ā Ā Ā His mouth twists into a wry smile at the thought, since he hoped heād be able to avoid further confrontation with Madara if he could, especially since he felt that their relationship had improved since last year. He didnāt mind his presence, considered him a friendly rival if anything, but now that itās come to this... Well, heād cross that bridge when he gets there. For now, they needed to reach an agreement on how to resolve Reiās issue with blood and Kuro finally proposes his ultimatum.
Ā Ā Ā āĀ When it comes down to it, it aināt just about the taste of blood, is it? Takinā blood from other folks just donāt sit right with you, like youāre carryinā the burden of it all upon you shoulders - like you always do. Listen, I get not wantinā to burden others, and wantinā to handle things on your own, but you donāt have to do this by yourself, yāknow. You gotta realize that everyone needs help at some point, so you oughta be more willinā to accept help from those around you. Learninā that... is part of beinā human, aināt it?Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā ā So if youāre really adamant about not lettinā Mikejima in on it, and honestly, I got my own reservationsĀ ābout Hasumi offerinā his blood... ā Heās not going to get away with saying that in front of Keito, but he ought to make it clear nonetheless. ā I guess that leaves me. Itāll take some gettinā used to but... ā He looks up at Rei, his gaze firm and resolute,Ā ā ...this might be for the best, for everyoneās sake, donātcha think? ā
