Vintage Ghost Photography

“Ghost” or spirit photography was popularized with William Mumler, who after discovering ‘ghostly’ figures in a photograph he had previously taken began to claim he could call up deceased spirits in his photographs. His success with the photos inspired many other photographers, including brothers Craig and George Falconer, who specialized in “ectoplasm” photography. The movement naturally had a healthy amount of skeptics, especially professional photographers who knew the ability a professional could have on manipulating a camera and the photos it produced.
