eleceed needs more politics and WAA and frame things

Okay so I have a theory on what Kaydens backstory might be.I think I might be over analysing and nitpicking, but you guys can be the judge.

So my theory is that Kayden may come from some sort of military/government family.

Point one: His meeting with Jiwoo.

When he first finds out Jiwoo doesn't know what an Awakener is, his reaction is "oh right there are some kids like you". This could mean Kayden already had knowledge of the awakener world. There are two scenarios where this is plausible; he was born into an awakener family, but the fact that not even one organisation knows what his last name is goes against this. Another scenario is that he could be from a military/government family, it's been stated that the government knows that awakeners exist. Upon getting his powers he could have just been told by his family about the awakener world.

Second point: Kayden seems to know a lot of details about many organisations, along with being very knowledgeable about awakener world politics.

At first this can just be pushed off as Kayden learning details about people he wants to fight. One thing that's off here is the fact that he seems to also know about the children of the organisations. Case and point he already seems to know about Duke and about the talents of other groups. He could have started researching for Jiwoo, but that doesn't seem to be in line with Kayden's way of teaching. He also already knew of Jiyoung's talent even though she managed to hide it from most of the awakened society. Another thing to consider is the fact that he can predict the behaviour of the other top ten, and knows their personality well. He knows that Schneider would most likely kill Duke if he lost, and he was right he was going to kill Duke. From the interaction they have with each other, it's clear that this is the first time Schneider has met Kayden face to face. Yet Kayden already seems to know the nuances of his personality. He was right about Supri wanting to take their side over Andrei's. Even when the Korean awakeners where on the fence on what Astras would do to them, Kayden already knew for a fact that Astra would move with a 100% certainty. He also knew the location of those three top 10 that attacked him. There is no mention of a gathering of those three by anyone in Korea, despite the fact that would be a huge deal since it was either happening near or in Korea. Yet they clearly know of Kayden's entry, which could mean that the other 3 were meeting in secret. Yet Kayden ended up finding them.

Point 3: Somehow a young Kayden didn't pop up on any organisation's radar.

Somehow a child/teenage Kayden didn't get forced to join any organisation. From Sucheons grandfather we can see that teens with potential could be forced into joining organisations. They could also be forced to join criminal organisations. Kayden made his debut fighting people, and he was at a level that he couldn't be forced into joining any group. Kayden from the get go clearly decides he doesn't want to be in an organisation despite it's benefits. If he came from a military/government family it would make sense that they would have; the power to hide him, knowledge of the operations of the awakener world, plus a safe space for him to train while hidden.

Point 4: His mannerisms.

Whenever we see glimpses of Kayden walking he always holds an upright straight posture, this can also be seen in the way he sits;he sits upright with his legs crossed. Another thing to note is that unless Kayden is fighting, his personality is more on the cordial side. When Kayden first meets Jiwoo he's annoyed but he doesn't just abandon Jiwoo, many of the powerful awakners shown wouldn't even entertain the cat catching shenanigans in the first few chapters. He also doesn't really seem to find the act of teasing Iseul for her crush amusing, his reactions show that he thinks such things are just unnecessary or maybe rude. Kayden also in a couple chapters, not only in Ian's gives criticism on manners. Kayden doesn't slouch unless he's trying to aggravate or annoy someone and his personality becomes more volatile when aggravated. Kayden also shows formal manners when meeting Jiwoo's mom, he doesn't necessarily have to introduce himself in such a manner; it is his own choice to present himself in such a manner towards his mom. From Kartiens reaction we know that Kayden didn't really need to present himself in such a way. The other top ten save for Supri and Veremonte wouldn't have even bothered to give a shrivel of politeness, and even in the case of Supri and Veremonte they wouldn't have been as polite. If Kayden is from a military/government family it would make sense that manners would be something that he was forced to learn.

As for why his family would let him do the things he does? I have no clue. Maybe he's a runaway, maybe he's an illegitimate child. Maybe his Family hid him away and didn't let the public know of his existence. Since powers show up when young, maybe his showed up early and his family decided to hide him.Maybe once he was discovered to have powers his family trained him to be a weapon. This theory makes a full on Rabbit hole of other theories.

I think I'm just overanalyzing things. Again this is just a theory I randomly thought of no one needs to take it seriously. Even the evidence is kind of happenstance. This is just an idea I thought was fun. If anyone has any theories of what Kaydens life may have been I would love to hear it.

HI BESTIES im back! have been thinking a lot about duke grane and his motivations which don't make sense at face value. hence i have consolidated a list of possible reasons why he might have decided to join frame despite being such a prodigy in the legitimate awakener world and therefore destined for power and influence.

More meritocratic, less nepotistic. the WAA is heavily influenced by real-world power structures; for example, the top 10 in the WAA are from highly influential families and groups and it's explicitly said that the rankings in the WAA parallel the real world. Duke is an ambitious and motivated person, and perhaps actually having to work for stuff in frame is something he thinks is worthy of his effort

More freedom to choose what you want and to experiment. His family wasn't happy with him for choosing to learn the speed force control. of course it might dilute his main power, but also i imagine there's an element of family pride there; they don't want the scion of their family diverging from his inheritance. conversely, frame doesn't have that element of force-control 'honour' because the apprentices come in later, already having some kind of their own power, and refine it under their masters

Continued guidance. The WAA throws you out into the real world when you graduate (I assume at 18 because it's structured somewhat like a high school) while the Frame apprentices that we know of are comparatively old (like muse and roist are? mid-20s?)

No unrealistic expectations (fundamental). He became a waa top 10 at a very young age i assume because they call him a prodigy. And I imagine that with every fight he won, he felt even more pressure to win the next one. there wasn't any space to make mistakes and grow

Less pressure to fight and climb the rankings. Families are very intense ab this because of politics. I imagine Frame is less pushy wrt world rankings. And WAA rankings are rubbish

Got tired of not being able to fight anyone. The top 10 don't fight each other. they don't fight the other people either and when they are challenged they have to win. it's very stagnant

in view of the barrenness of this webtoon when it comes to sucheon content these days I would like to suggest a fun thing for sucheon to try on jiwoo next time

the premise of it is that sucheon will carry out a gravitational slingshot on jiwoo! basically he will take advantage of jiwoo's high speed and angular momentum with regard to sucheon to Swing Him Around and into a wall. he can make jiwoo pull more Gs than he has ever experienced in his life.

see picture attached for some visualisation. the only problem is that because this is an elastic collision and sucheon is about as massive as jiwoo, he might also fly away.

you must be shitting me. you're telling me duke lost?? for the third time in a row?? what kind of op rubbish is this, son jeho? the stakes used to be so high for jiwoo because we didnt know if he would be actually lose and/or get hurt, but now he just wins regardless of what happens to him and then kartein heals him. last week when I read it I suspected duke might lose again, magically, and now my suspicions have been confirmed so I can say, unequivocally, that there's no emotional engagement anymore; it's so predictable and so flat. this is so, so incredibly stupid.

why frame's system is objectively better (part 1)

so yeah I felt like the treatment of frame in eleceed is skewed in that they do the same thing (seeking power) as everyone else but get attacked for it. and we know the system of the world awakened union and the 'legitimate' groups isn't all that great. so I will now play devil's advocate and start talking about why frame's system is just better

my first point is that frame's system offers continued guidance past 'school age'.

in the WAA, students study like they're in high school, which implies that mentorship from the school cuts off at the age of 18+, after which they're expected to go into politics and the actual rankings and stuff

while they may continue receiving mentorship from their families and groups, it's not all that sustained, and also, once they graduate, they're expected to become world rankers and political leaders.

the WAA is a very sheltered system with very clean-cut rules and safety nets that aren't like the real world at all. pushing someone through an education system like this doesn't really prepare them for the real world, and even gives them an artificially inflated sense of their own power.

frame doesn't have this 'cut off point'. apprentices continue learning until they're ready to go out into the real world. case in point: roist, who's most definitely not 18, but still an apprentice who hasn't done much in the world of politics and things yet.

this allows people to really deepen their skills before being pushed out into the real world. also, the apprenticeship system that frame has allows growing awakeners to observe and be aware of things happening in the real world since the beginning of their educations, which results in a less steep learning curve once they reach an age where they're allowed to take part in politics and ranking spars and things.

because mentorship is offered for longer, it also helps young awakeners to progress in the awakened world on a basis other than their family name or their master's name. they'll keep learning and growing in skill until they truly become able to take care of themselves, unlike the WAA where, because of the school structure, people get pushed into the dog eat dog awakened world at a set age whether they like it or not

see also: the patricks' system. julian is still learning from veramonte despite being well past the waa age (if he even went there at all). he's doing well i would say

in anticipation for the next chapter I have devised some pointers for duke in his next fight with jiwoo (very likely) because he really needs to fight smarter (yes he may be powerful but he needs better strategy!! hopefully schnauder can help him with that)

go for the legs straight away with your long-range red vibes. DON'T short range him (I don't care about your pride sir. you just want to win this.) jiwoo's only attack is literally to run really fast and punch you with electricity. if he can't run very fast he can't max speed you, and his long range attacks are very untried which gives you the advantage.

mess up the floor real bad. what glant did! blast the floor like mad so he can't run. the problem is that glant didn't have long range attacks as effective as yours.

keep walking so he can't max speed u. literally KEEP MOVING because the faster he goes, the more inertia he has, and the slower he turns, so his attacks won't land full on if you keep moving away from his predicted path.

if he does manage to run around and start punching you from all directions just let out a fat burst of energy (you're supposed to be the most powerful rookie I'm sure you can do this) to create space and then continue moving. if you manage to land a solid hit then good for you but even a glancing blow will throw him off and create space.

when the legs are gone/unusable THEN you can start using short range attacks if you really want (I wouldn't advise it but whatever) or you can just fight his unpracticed electricity with the red energy you have refined over years of practice. it'll be very hard for you to lose once jiwoo can't do his electricity max speed punch which he needs his legs for

so obviously the author isn't going to do this but I'm just saying it IS possible for jiwoo to be beaten and duke really should stand a chance if he fights in a smarter way

dulia part 2 here we go

i wrote a poem this time. this is dedicated to @tarosucheon my brainrot bestie because taro mentioned yes to heaven on my previous dulia post and so i sought to capture that vibe in this one. it's pretty long but it looked much tinier on google docs so oh well.

a little note before the poem: the stars represent awakeners who are 'shining' in the world-- they're at the top of their game and very eager to maintain their position. so basically they're the ones who are propagating the brokenness and toxicity of the awakened world. and duke is one of them, and lia is one of them, because they, too, are seeking to become powerful, but their realisation together of this fact sets them apart. anyways hope u enjoy and let me know if there are any questions with regard to interpretation :)

the similarity between wuxia mechanics and awakened vibes is really uncanny. (if i elaborated this post would be insanely long. perhaps I'll break it up in the near future)

in other news (or perhaps by extension) i wonder how different cultures treat awakeners. because perception of awakeners definitely can't be a monolith and perhaps some cultures do actually accept them or at least know of them and put it down to folk magic or something. it would be interesting to explore how the existence of awakeners affects cultural mythology and perceptions of magic and the supernatural

i may,,, have written a duke x lia fanfic. for context this is set in an au/possible future where duke gets chased out of frame by roist and flees. he ends up at the eresby estate where stuff ensues. enjoy.

Sometimes, in an ill-afforded moment of empathy, Lia thinks that even the rats in the gutter look at the stars.

Some came close once, she knows. There are towers to heaven that are built every day. Some collapse almost immediately: the unaffiliated awakener ground down and destroyed before having a chance to live in this world. Some last for longer, and collapse in a maelstrom of dust and broken wishes: any mistake can bring monuments to ambition crashing down. Some almost touch the stars before they fall.

Thoughts like these don’t come easily to Lia. It’s far easier to ignore the fact that her ladder to the stars was built for her, and that she only has to climb it. The pursuit of power is all she’s ever known, she thinks, and following that path is easier than falling asleep. The people she knows, the leading Awakeners of her generation, are all doing the same, climbing monoliths to reach the remote stars. Some fell away, left that path, took more dangerous, more ruthless craft to the skies.

(And then what? The stars remain as far away as when they’d set off.)

They were thrust into this world too soon, Lia thinks. She remembers those youth-summer days at the Academy, from a time where power was of so little consequence and the stakes only of reputation. Scenes rush through her mind with the wide, careless strokes and vivid colours of an oil painting. A boy standing at ease while his power swells,  a roaring surge of crimson and jet-black so massive it almost deafens, drowning the arena in shades of scarlet and rouge. Eyes glittering like garnets, a cold smile, a refined voice; the moment when charm and gentleness are swept away and his speed doubles and the very ground starts to shudder under the weight of so much power. Vignettes streaked with shadow appear too: a body with long dark hair and a gaping wound through the chest– body of a friend, she thinks– and the image of hands bloody, blood flecking, distinctive, on white hair, mirrored in eyes of ruby. 

(Later, when Lia sets foot on the first steps of the tower and begins to scale it for herself, she starts to understand.)

That was the kind of man Duke was. So who was this child, who showed up bloody and desperate at the Eresby estate that day, who staggered through the flowerbeds to fall at her feet like a man sending a last, hopeless prayer to his god? 

In that moment, Lia saw it: his path to the stars had crumbled when he had yet to reach them. 

Over weeks, she learns the truth. The towers fall because the ground they’re built on is wrong. Whether it is the gold-marble halls of Family mansions, or the World Awakened Union’s sterile white training rooms, or the bloodstained castles and forests of Frame– none of them provide stable foundations to touch the stars. What difference is there between Duke, chased out of Frame by a fellow apprentice more vicious than even him, and her, chased towards more and more power, towards Family headship, by siblings one step behind? What difference is there between the open ruthlessness of Frame and the veiled threats of Family politics?

Their world is broken, grotesque, and, stumbling through the dark, they find each other. He is the only real thing Lia has had to hold, growing up in the smoke and mirrors and the illusions and false promises of politics. But behind her now-forsaken inheritance hides a trembling, desperate thirst for freedom. It makes her wonder: was it a noble denial, or terror-fuelled penance? 

In any case, with her poster-child facade completely dissolved, she leaves the ugliness of her inherited world behind. She allows a deep compassion to flood her– the first sense of understanding the Awakened world has allowed her. 

The inheritance-impoverished days blur into each other– days filled with the burning aftertastes and technicolour-seared impressions of Awakener fights, liquid-gold sunsets, arched windows, torchlight, closed doors, nights entwined in shadow. 

(If her shield could arrest fragments of peace in time with a sliver of the ease with which it arrests familiar shards of crimson, they would stay in this moment forever.)

And Lia, awake and wasting the ephemeral night, looks at the boy sleeping beside her. The clouds move, and a shadow falls, as if cast by a monolith just short of heaven, over them.

how does this only have 1 note? not a duke/lia shipper myself (no judgement on those who do though; it's just that I headcanon duke as ace) but it's so nicely written. it's the metaphor of the tower (which reminds me of the tower of babel), the non-linear narrative, the words that they use, the way everything's phrased.

concept to be explored: how real-world international politics/history impacts the politics of the awakened world. take the Cold War (because it was so wide-ranging and so long)- how would that affect the way awakeners from different countries interact and deal with each other? (how would a Chinese awakener interact with one from the USSR? or the USA? is there a concept of colonisation in the awakened world? or a third-world consciousness? do they have superpowers in the international relations sense?) the extent to which international relations in the irl world bear on awakened international relations should really be explored. hmu if anyone feels the same. might post more on this.

i was thinking about that laser mouth girl that sucheon fought in the first waa arc and by extension the concept of voice-powers. and the idea of a siren-song power is suddenly very appealing to me. i know the concept of voice-as-mind-control is so cliched but what if it were an emotion-manipulation thing instead where the song that the person sings can evoke things like fear or joy or intense desire, and they use that to attack opponents and defend themselves. and I imagine it wouldn't be what we're used to listening to, but something atonal, ugly almost, and the horrifying thing is that it can draw you in even as it repulses you. character-wise imagine someone with that power who actually loves music and singing, and then the tension between their voice as a weapon and as something that can bring beauty. the potential for this is so massive imagine imagine imagine-

eleceed really missed an opportunity with that analytical thinking guy from earlier. I know he's unaffiliated but imagine the potential of someone with insanely developed analytical thinking skills and force control. they could play a really important role as a strategist for the groups or even just as a lone-wolf figure. or imagine them double-wielding with another power like fire or something in a duke kind of manner. they would be unstoppable I swear
