Judith smiled at the mention of a story. She hoped it was one that was happy and optimistic. There wasn’t much of either of those things nowadays. She sat cross-legged on the ground, ready to listen. That name sounded familiar, like she’s heard about her before. “I think I’ve heard about her a few times. Daddy says she used to sing a lot to me and it wasn’t those cheesy ones about the Black Plague and cradles fallin’ out of trees.” Her expression softened, Daryl acted differently when he talked about her, she noticed that. But she didn’t know if she should say something.
It wasn’t easy to talk about Beth, in fact, it was probably the most difficult thing he’d done in quite some time. He smiled sadly at his niece, nodding a bit. “She used ta sing ya songs her parents taught her.” Daryl hesitated, calming himself down before continuing. “Not long after ya were born, the group got separated an’ Beth and I were on our own.” He remembered it vividly. “I thought she was goin’ ta be weak, but the truth is..she’s one of the strongest people I ever met.”
