Perhaps they pull thier nature energy from plants in the area, and thus have corrupted thier own magic enough that the energy around doesn’t harm them as badly.

Perhaps they're incredibly sickly and a burden on the clan.

Or maybe they wear a modified or treated form of armor, wraps, or a plague doctor-like outfit to protect themselves?
