Tabletop Christmas Tree-crochet pattern

This magical little tree is perfect for adorning the Christmas dinner table . Make one for every guest at your festive gathering a wonderful little keepsake for them to take home and treasure!

Tabletop Christmas Tree-crochet pattern

Materials and equipment: Crochet hook size 2.00mm (US B-1, UK 14) No. 3 crochet cotton – 1 ball of green and 1 ball of variegated green Scrap of mini tinsel Mini coloured tinsel balls 2 gold stars Cocktail stick Craft glue Small amount of stuffing Measurements: The tree is approximately 8cm (3¼in) high.

Instructions: Tree Using green crochet cotton, make 40 ch and join with a sl st into a circle, being careful not to twist the chain. Round 1: work 1 sc (UKdc) into each ch around then join with a sl st to beg of round [40 sts]. Work a further 3 rounds of sc (UKdc). Round 5: *1 sc (UKdc) into each of next 3 sc (UKdc), sc (UKdc) 2 tog,* repeat from * to * all around [32 sts]. Work 4 rounds in sc (UKdc). Next round: *1 sc (UKdc) into each of next 2 sc (UKdc), sc (UKdc) 2 tog,* repeat from * to * all around [24 sts]. Work 4 rounds in sc (UKdc). Round 1: work 6 sc (UKdc) into 2nd ch from hook then join with a sl st into a tight circle. Round 2: 2 sc (UKdc) into each st around then join with a sl st to beg [12 sts]. Round 3: *1 sc (UKdc) into next sc (UKdc), 2 sc (UKdc) into next sc (UKdc),* repeat from * to * all around then join with a sl st as before [18 sts]. Round 7: 1 sc (UKdc) into each of next 5 sc (UKdc), 2 sc (UKdc) into next sc (UKdc),* repeat from * to * all around then join with a sl st [42 sts]. Fasten off. Twisted strands (make 1 in each of 4 sizes) Using variegated green crochet cotton, make 20 ch. Work 1 dc (UKtr) into 3rd ch from hook, then 3 dc (UKtr) into each ch to end. The crochet will twist as you work. Fasten off. Repeat the process starting with 28 ch, 30 ch and 36 ch. To make up Work in all the ends. Stuff the tree quite firmly then attach the base, inverting it slightly to enable the tree to stand. Take each twisted strand and sew the ends together to form a circle. Place the circles on the tree in size order, starting with the largest at the base. Sew in place. Wrap some tinsel around the tree, securing it with a little craft glue or stitches. Glue the tinsel balls on to the branches at random. Cut the cocktail stick in half. Place a little glue on one side of a star and press the other star on to it, sandwiching half the cocktail stick in between. Press firmly until well stuck. Push the cocktail stick down into the top of the tree, securing it with a little glue.

• Tapestry needle size 18 • Matching sewing thread •Contrasting 5mm (!4in) cord to trim, 1.8m (2yd) • One contrasting colour tassel

Finished size 47 x 37.5cm (18 ½ x 14 ½ in)

What cat lover could possibly resist this gorgeous Christmas stocking bulging with presents! The design features five different British Shorthair varieties, starting at the top with the Red Tabby, followed by the British Blue, Tortoiseshell-and-white, Black-and-white Bi-coloured, and finally the Brown Tabby. With all the holly, bells, baubles, ribbons and bows, who could fail to have a merry Christmas!

1. Mount the canvas in a frame . Following the chart, stitch the design centrally onto the canvas, according to the stitching techniques. As this design is quite large, it may require stretching after completion.

2.When the needlepoint is complete, trim the canvas, leaving a seam allowance of 1.25cm (½in) all round the embroidery. Cut the backing fabric to the same size and from the lining fabric cut two pieces also o f the same size.

3. Pin, tack and stitch the embroidery to the backing fabric, right sides together, leaving the top open. C lip the curves and turn to the right side.

4. Place the embroidery inside the lining right sides together, then stitch the tops together. Turn the stocking through the opening in the stocking foot, slipstitch the opening together, and push the lining into the stocking.

5. T rim with the contrasting coloured cord, adding the tassel at the back of the open end.

200 g 7oz fresh white crab meat

100 g 4oz fresh brown crab meat

100 g 4oz dried lemon breadcrumbs (eg from Waitrose)

2 spring onions finely sliced

handful parsley leaves finely chopped

1/2 tsp each Worcestershire sauce. English mustard powder and Tabasco

2 tbsp reduced-fat mayonnaise

juice 1/2 lemon

large handful seasoned flour to coat

1 free-range egg beaten

1 tbsp oi

Instructions

1 Heat the oven to 200 C. 180 C fan. 400 F, gas 6 Place the crab meat, half the breadcrumbs. The spring onions, parsley,seasonings. mayonnaise and lemon juice into a bowl, mix thoroughly and season with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 rounds and lightly flatten Coat each one lightly in flour, then beaten egg and finally cover every in the remaining breadcrumbs.

2 Heat a frying pan and add tie oil. When it starts to shimmer in the pan, place the crab cakes in and brown on both sides for a couple of minutes Transfer to a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes until golden brown Serve Immediately with lemon wedges and oven chips.

Seafood linguine

You can use any combination of seafood, or replace with firm fish fillets.

1 kg 2lb 4oz mixed shellfish (we used mussels and clams)

500 g 1lb 2oz mixed seafood (we used squid, prawns and scallops)

400 g 14oz linguine

25 g 1oz butter

2 garlic cloves chopped

1 red chilli finely chopped

200 m l <7fl oz) white wine

large handful parsley roughly chopped

Instructions

1 Pick through “the shellfish and discord any open ones Rinse thoroughly. You may have to de-beard the mussels

2.Heat a frying pan and add a drizzle of oil. When very hot. add the seafood and heat until just cooked (for prawns, this will be the second they turn pink). Set aside. Cook the pasta according to the pack instructions

3 Heat a lidded saute pan and melt the butter. Add the garlic and chilli, and cook for a few minutes over a low heat Turn up the heat and add the wine. Simmer and add the shellfish. Cover and cook for 5 minutes, shaking occasionally until all he shellfish is open Discard any unopened ones. Add the rest of the seafood and season with pepper.

4 Drain tlio cooked pasta. combine with the seafood and scatter with parsley lo serve.

Top TIP: When working Fair Isle, ensure you always strand the same colour above or below the other (the colour you would like to be dominant on top), to keep a consistent, even look.
