i don't care if i sound like a complainer or im beating a dead horse, but all the promotion that tvl is getting—the magazines and episode-breakdown couch convo/podcasts and in-universe commercials and live concerts and tons of alternate previews and fucking fashion designer collaborations—compared to the next to nothing that the previous two black and brown-led seasons got really feels purposeful. like amc got their audience built off of their diverse cast, and now they're shifting to a whiter brand, perhaps what they'd wanted to do all along, and are doing their best to advertise that as much as possible.
S3 of IWTV not having black writers is old news at this point but the reaction to people's (mainly black fans lbr) concerns still annoys me to this day.
People using "Lestat's season" as a reason for S3 not having black writers never sat well with me. Why are we acting like S3 will suddenly have no black characters ? Like they're not gonna focus on race as much as they did in S1 but Louis and Claudia are still black characters.
S1-2 were Louis' (and Claudia) seasons, with their logic, both seasons should have had more black writers than white ones. If seasons focused on black characters could have white writers what's stopping them from having black writers for a season with a white man character?
Saying it's Lestat's season, implying that black writers should only write for black characters while white writers are allowed to write for everyone is weird to me. People genuinely say black writers aren't needed because S3 won't focus on race/racism as much as S1, as if black writers can only write stories that have to do with racism.
we simply cannot have the big brown doe eyes of the Pitt discussion without her

SO i just got back from the theaters watching Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die(it was great btw), and I got a refreshingly large amount of new-premise trailers before it started? Like, enough that I'm actually pretty hopeful about the 2026 well-advertised cinema landscape(as good cinema that isn't just derivative of existing properties is made every year, it just doesn't always get heard about. And maybe these won't either!). These aren't very detailed descriptions of the trailers themselves, this is more or less a diary entry to function as a recommendation to go check out these trailers!!
Slanted(March 13th) promoted itself as The Substance meets Mean Girls, and I'm definitely curious to see more about it. Shirley Chen is already such a charismatic actress, I'm excited to see her, at least partly, in such a comprehensive role as this one. Looks like there'll be an appropriate amount of gore to seal the deal of how horrific a process those who are made to change themselves have to undergo. Deep Water(May 1st), I'm not even sure if it's going to be a shark movie, but if it is I will definitely be sat. From how detailed and terrifying the first shots of the plane crash were, I honestly figured this was going to be based off of a true story...or it was just getting even more into a version of the Final Destination plane crash. Neither are true, I believe, lmao. I can't say for certain, but it seemed to me like a hailing back to when movies didn't give every later plot point of the movie away in their trailers, wow. Next was Newborn(April 10th), and holy shit I am so excited for Newborn. The visuals of the trailer were absolutely stunning, the shots of all the men in jumpsuits writhing in cookie cutter graves literally stuck with me into the actual movie I came to watch. The premise of it as well, the idea of a fractured self 'freed' into an unjust society is already intriguing, and I have a feeling they're taking it in such an interesting and personal way. I am wondering what's coming of the 'take them' aspect, as well as the mental health one, but I will be in that theater. Over Your Dead Body(April 24th) looks like a morbidly good time, I've never been a huge Jason Segel fan, but this one looks like its made of up a cast of shitty, petulant characters who are all matching each other's energies, to a degree of insanity. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the plot, and maybe that'll just be by seeing it myself! Tuner(May 22nd) was the last trailer that played before the movie began, and is the one I'm most excited about. Granted, there's a tinge of a heist element to it, which I'm a huge sucker for in films. But that's not the main premise! After having to skip The Running Man, because I hate Glen Powell, it's nice to have an upcoming thriller I'm really excited for! I love the premise of this savant like character, and I won't say it hasn't been done before, but I am really excited to see this one, even if it is maybe a bit more from a mold than the others I've listed. I don't have a lot to say about Undertone(March 13th), honestly, I'm not that much of a horror movie geek, and this is pretty unequivocably a horror flick. I like the premise of getting into audio horror(made me think of Pontypool, but only because I have limited knowledge of horror to reference and am just a Dead Meat watcher) and also maybe a cognito hazard? Or whatever that premise is called. Managed to make me think of both Buzzfeed Unsolved and The Black Tapes, so kudos on that. Trailers for Hokum and Disclosure Day were also shown, as well as Ready or Not 2 which despite my love for Shawn Hatosy I didn't get into on this list for obvious reasons, but those just didn't really interest me as much as these other ones. Okay, ramble over!!! Good night!!
