I just found a dream daddy fic I was working on last year in my docs and totally forgot all abt it omg.... I'll share an excerpt bc I do like it and would love to know if anyone else does

unfortunate news tho. I completely forgot where I was going with this fic. I would love to finish it but I don't think I can LMAO

the gist was a short fic from my oc's perspective, but written in first person for slight self insert ability for readers (aside from vague physical descriptions), and the story was gonna be about him and mary having some rare one-on-one time together that leads to a slightly serious conversation iirc. that's where the problem is bc I don't remember what the conversation was gonna be and that was the whole point of the fic

anyways here's a part of it under the cut, starting from the beginning so you're not missing out on any context, 578 words so it's fairly short

“Hey nerd.”

“Wanna hang?”

My eyes flick up to the notifications as they pop up on my phone screen, which I’d been staring at and scrolling mindlessly for the past… however many hours it’d been. God, my eyes hurt.

I didn’t quite catch the name of the contact at first, or I at least glanced over it and swiftly forgot what I read, so I was thoroughly surprised when I pulled down the notification bar and saw Mary’s name. Less so at the fact she texted me, though she doesn’t often, and more at the fact she was asking me to hang out.

I wouldn't say we aren’t friends or anything, but we’re not super close. Usually when I spend time with Mary, it’s when I’m already spending time with someone else and she happens to be there or show up at some point.

I start to wonder if she’s asking for someone else. Maybe she’s with Robert and he just didn’t feel like texting? I haven’t seen him in a while. Would be nice to catch up again.

I then realize it’s been a few minutes and I got lost in thought while a slightly annoying video played on repeat in the background, which was now getting increasingly more annoying. I finally open Mary’s text and sit there for a minute with my thumbs hovering over the keyboard, trying to think of what to say back. A simple “yeah, sure” would work just fine, but I kinda wanna know the details here. Would it be rude to automatically assume she’s with Robert if she wants to hang out alone for once? Would she ever want to do that with me??

I’m overcomplicating this. I start typing a reply.

“depends, what’re you thinkin of?”

I send it and see her typing a few seconds later.

“Not much. I’m at Jim n Kim’s, meet me there and let’s see where the night takes us?”

Interesting, but nothing I’m unused to. Spending time with Robert has trained me well enough for things like this, except Mary has the decency to not do this at midnight and threaten to wake the neighborhood by honking her car horn right outside my house to hurry me up.

“robert gonna be there?”

“Knew you were gonna ask that.”

I wince a bit. I can practically hear her scoffing at my question.

“No. Can’t a gal spend some one on one time with her best friend’s new best friend?”

Sometimes I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of Mary’s humor and teasing, but then she goes and says another thing to throw me off. I can’t tell if she’s poking fun or if she’s actually bitter about it. It’s even worse over text.

I won’t ask about it, though.

“right, sorry”

“i’ll be there, gimme a bit to get ready”

My texts get marked as “read” and I put my phone down, dragging myself out of bed. I sit on the edge of my mattress for a few minutes, silently processing everything I have to do and letting myself get used to moving again after being stuck in bed for ages. I feel exhausted physically, and as much as that feeling is making me not want to do this at all, I know that I should. I feel like I’ve been rotting all day. Getting out would do me good.

Plus, once I get back home, I can pass the absolute fuck out. Good bonus.
