Some more practice, this time with crosshatching. I used the same photo I used in my last post. I also took some WIP photos:
I got about this far into the drawing when I decided I hated it. I didn't leave nearly enough white space , so it looked horribly unbalanced to me. I got out some white acrylic paint and attempted to save it:
I don't hate it quite so much now.
I could've called it finished here, but it still felt off to me., and I couldn't figure out why. So I took the original photo, set the saturation to 0, and raised the contrast:
That helped me figure out the lighting mistakes I'd made, mostly in the face around the eye. Once, I had a drawing teacher say that if you can only get one part of a drawing right, it should be the eyes, and I really took that to heart. After those adjustments, I got the final version at the top of this post.
It still feels a bit overworked to me. I'd be happy to receive some constructive criticism on it.
