Recent studies! Part 1?

Of things I desperately needed to study… Especially backgrounds…

People have asked me how I'd draw black hairstyles in the Arcana style because, regrettably, there are no examples from the game. I've only ever tried generic dreadlocks but I wanted to branch out and really try some studies because there's enormous diveristy and creativity in these styles

Afro hair really is no more complicated to draw than straight/curly hair but we really have far fewer references in far fewer styles so we need to put in extra work to figure them out rather than just being taught how to draw them by looking at other artists

So, this is less of a tutorial and more my attempt to figure out how you might draw different hairstyles in the Arcana style (some less accurate than others but I tried)

Massive shoutout to @donutsbagels! Their art style is angular and gorgeous and they have these amazing pages of creative, varied black hairsyles which were a big inspiration here. The first page here is traced over their art to try get the muscle memory for their shapes. Please look them up! Their character designs are incredible

Studying form with Pupcup lol

so recently I’ve realized I suck ASS at form/3d shapes so I started studying it especially in terms of the human body. I did other more boring studies that are just regular humans, but I got bored midway and just started doing pupcup cuddling cos I especially suck at two person poses

this one I wasn’t going for any crazy stylization I like it but it’s not that interesting so I did what you should NEVER do and started stylization before I fully understood the basics

This one has quite a few mistakes like Boris being tilted to far up cos like I mentioned, stylization before I fully understood the basics but also LOOK AT THAT CUPHEAD, I love how his upper body looks, very three dimensional

This one gave me paranoia cos a little voice keeps whispering in my ear that Cuphead’s head is too small but if I work om this sketch anymore it will be straight up perfectionism, and for a study at that. I do really love it tho, something about the pose is very silly and tender at the same time. Also Cuphead’s sneakers make me happy

Also fun fact: I use like the smallest possible brush sizes on these things cos it makes it easier to see mistakes(Plus I draw faster with zero pen pressure)

idk why but I like yapping thru art studies and about art in general but I never get to irl(unless one of my friends is learning art for the first time ever) so like yall get to suffer through my ramblings
