This week I took a trip to the White Oaks subdivision near Varina, Henrico, Virginia. I completely  sanded down the Delaney family’s stair railing and applied a darker stain and clear coat. Here is a newel Post I removed today while preparing a staircase for some brand spanking new boxed newels.

There are many ways to attach newel posts to walls and stair rail but a couple of Brad nails is definitely not the way to go. This trim carpenter didn’t even use wood screws!

Before I installed a simple boxed newel with Bristol stair railing and gothic type balusters.
