It's ok if you don't want to answer, but what is your favorite unpopular opinion?

Characters can be problematic without being a reflection of the creator's own personal ideas, interests, or what they themselves would do. 

If your character is a serial killer you wouldn’t do that, so that's cool. Just look at the average 12-year-old on the internet with OC's and you’ll find that edgy ‘I stab because it's fun’ character.  If your character is a racist due to their upbringing and the time period they’re based in, you’re clearly racist. There is no other way around it, you hate that race specifically and you totally hold those morals as your own. (please pick up on the sarcasm here) 

That character is overly sexualizing the females in the series, clearly, the artist is trying to get their chops off to that. Not that there is a backbone to the character that gives reason to the origin of this behavior, or there is a storytelling element tied into their behavior even if its simply the comedic relief. 

There is a separation between characters, plot, and the creator. There are things that characters do and say that I do not personally agree with but if it fits their background and motivations I will not prevent it from being presented. 

People immediately tie the artists and creators' identities to what happens in the stories that they create. Everyone has their own comfort levels and my own has been ‘I will draw what it takes to tell the story’. There are topics I am not comfortable with illustrating, suicide is one of them, but there are others I would shelve that hesitation if it moves the story forward. If there is a REASON for it. 

I’ve been questioned if I have a kink for blood and gore due to the SU comic. This really isn’t the case. I enjoy dark stories, I always have. I enjoy the things that seem unsettling and I enjoy tough scenarios that cause characters to act in ways they normally wouldn’t. That is what creates the story, that is what creates something compelling, that creates the PLOT. 

That does not mean that I myself would act out these behaviors nor is it a reflection of my own ideals.  I suppose that's as much of an ‘unpopular’ opinion as it becomes for me. It seems pretty straight forward but when you start applying it to some of the characters in general media you can hit some hiccups and the conflicts begin.
