HOW TO PLAN FOR YOUR INTERNATIONAL MOVE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
Itâs never too early to plan your international move, the more time you have to plan, the better.
DO YOUR RESEARCH
From differences in culture or climate to how you will spend your leisure time. Decide what needs to be done prior to your move, such as visa applications, and what needs to be done after you arrive, like finding a local doctor and grocery store.
MOVING SOLO OR WITH FAMILY
If youâre on your own, chances are youâll want to make friends quickly. If youâre moving with a partner, they may be interested in job opportunities. Young families will have different requirements from those with teenagers.
SECURING YOUR FINANCES
Financial matters raise some of the biggest concerns for people moving abroad. From opening and closing bank accounts, through to managing pensions to disparities in tax, these questions should be addressed as early as possible.
DEVELOP A COMPLETE INVENTORY
Take the time to understand the logistical and transport costs â from packing to airfares, and sea or air freight costs. You decide whatâs going with you and what isn't. If youâre planning on coming back, you will need to make storage plans for the items you are not taking with you.
You should look to develop a complete inventory of all your possessions to make sure nothing is missed.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of our workplace culture at Crown - so we considered it a privilege to work with The Salvation Army again and help put together Christmas support packages for New Zealand families who are doing tough in the holiday season.
And our expert packing skills definitely came in handy on the day!
Recently, we received a special request from a young customer about a treasured item that Crown gifted him when he moved across town with his family. Read Dexterâs story below:
Hi Crown,
My name is Dexter, I am a two-year-old chocolate lab. Two years ago, you moved my family and you gave me a wonderful toy lion which I call Leo. I took it everywhere with me in my mouth and I loved to show him to everyone but alas, itâs getting a bit âruffâ now.
You see, I donât like sharing my toys and when my friend came over for a playdate the other day, we had a fight over Leo. He has been my friend since I was 10 weeks old, and I took him everywhere with me in the car and on walks to the park. Leo slept in my crate with me every night. I feel bad that I hurt him that day and Iâm very upset that he is now âdestroyedâ! So, I am getting my owner to email you about it and ask if I may have another one, please?
Thank you,
Love, Dexter
(Days laterâŠ)
Hi Crown,
Thank you so much for the new toys! Mum said I own just about every toy in the pet shops, but I still wanted more. I am just so cute that I think I deserve them though.
I am a very happy boy now that I can take Leo & the new rugby ball everywhere with me! Iâm so happy that I get to sleep with my Leo every night again. THANK YOU so much for sending me them, you are all my new forever friends.

Christchurch, Ćtautahi is the largest city in the South Island. But, it has much more enchanting claims to fame than its size.
Officially New Zealandâs first-ever city, Christchurch has been named one of the friendliest cities on the planet, is one of the worldâs Street Art Capitals, and is home to the largest inner-city park in the Southern Hemisphere! Thatâs quite the list of achievements!
Besides all these impressive things, Christchurch is a fantastic place to call home. The economy is prospering, the cost of living is far lower than in Wellington and Auckland, and the culture and sense of community make it hard to beat.
Keen to take a closer look at what itâs like to live, work, and play in Christchurch? Letâs zoom in on the details:
Known as the North Islandâs fruit bowl, the Hawkeâs Bay region is a beautiful spot that often flies under the radar.
This region on the east coast of New Zealandâs North Island is growing steadily. People are choosing to relocate there to take advantage of the mild Mediterranean climate, the relaxed lifestyle, and the increasing job opportunities that are popping up.
From mountain ranges and beaches to plains and stunning hill country â letâs see what makes life in the Hawkeâs Bay so good.
Recently six of our most talented operations staff from around the country joined the âNEXT LEVELâ programme which included workshops, secondment and working group projects.
âNEXT LEVELâ is a development programme for staff looking for leadership career growth opportunities within Crown. Our first 2-day workshop in Auckland was facilitated by Tristan Cavanagh â Operations Training Manager and Lesley Beecham â HR Manager. Unfortunately, this was cut short by the announcement of NZ moving into a snap lockdown.
Lesley Beecham commented, âWhat a truly amazing group of people â we are so fortunate at Crown to have such skilled and experienced staff who want to advance into leadership roles within the company and itâs an absolute pleasure to help Tristan facilitate a programme that will take them to their NEXT Career Levelâ.
âIt was fantastic to get the âNEXT LEVELâ team together in Auckland as we look to give our top talents the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. It was awesome to have Leon Hulme, Managing Director of Crown NZ kick things off and present âNEXT LEVELâ shirts to the team. It certainly wasnât part of the plan for the âNEXT LEVELâ programme to be Level-4 mid event, however, with the wonderful help of Debs Briggs, we were able to quickly return everyone back to their families during what was a very tense period. Fingers crossed we are able to get the âNEXT LEVELâ team back together when it is safe to do so.â Tristan Cavanagh.
Sharon Brandt â Client Services Manager is the head of Crownâs World Mobility Division, annually managing the relocation of over 2500 corporate customers on behalf of Crownâs managed accounts.

Last week at Crown is our âHealth & Safety at Work Weekâ where we focus on educating staff to be proactive in recognising and eliminating hazards wherever they are operating.

New Zealand is one of the top destinations in the world with its clean green natural image, scenery, adventure, culture and friendly people. Itâs not surprising that every year, thousands of people make the decision to move âdown-underâ to the Land of the Long White Cloud, also known as âAotearoaâ.
When it comes to quality of life Kiwis have the right balance to work, live and play. Whether itâs the arts, sports, the outdoors or just more quality family time that you value, New Zealand has a lot to offer.
