For a moment, the Headmage strummed the base of his chin.
“Hmmm…” That was actually quite the thought to ponder. Having Louise stand before the Magic Mirror for a second assessment could possibly garner a new result. After having developed magic like this, it was almost certain for her soul to be sorted to one of the seven dorms. However, how beneficial would that be if she were to be stationed somewhere else other than Ramshackle? Surely it would be more problematic. Balance had to be kept somehow, and he would rather have some leverage-- ahem, he would rather have someone who was in a position of neutrality in order to keep the rest of the students in line.
“If that is what you truly want, then I suppose there is no reason for you to leave Ramshackle. The paper work for dorm transfers are quite tedious and I simply can’t be bothe--” He clears his throat curtly before continuing. “-- and I simply would not wish to impose more troubles upon your plate.”
With a wave of his finger however, the air around them begins to crackle. Sparks of glittery, twinkling lights gather around Ramshackle’s Prefect, not unlike the smallest of fae dancing around her with much glee. A flash of light would burst thereafter, and in its place as the glow dissipates, was a magic pen that was embellished with a purple stone much like Grim’s.
“I do believe, Ms. Louise, that you deserve to have this.” A budding young wizard needed the proper tools in order to utilize magic in the most efficient way possible. “And for that, you and Grim are no longer one unit. A separate student, if you will. But I would implore you to look after him, as fellow residents of Ramshackle, friends and as fellow schoolmates.”
To allow her the dorm of her choice, even to give her a magical pen and amend their status as students. Truly, why was he so needlessly kind?
As much as we all love roasting Crowley for being a cheapskate, BUT IS HE REALLY?
Listen. Crowley may not give Yuu that unlimited post paid plan for their smartphone or raise the funding for Ramshackle, but that doesn't mean that he's cheap. On the contrary, the Headmage actually tends to splurge a little on a very specific circumstance.
IF and WHEN there is a chance to bolster Night Raven College's reputation, Crowley tends to spend generously for that. A good example for this is in Book 5 when he sponsored NRC Tribe's outfit for the VDC. Something that he sees as an investment is worth shelling out a good amount of Madol for. And he takes into consideration the duration of these things, I feel. Of course, when it comes to big events like the VDC where there's reporters, the events are televised and broadcasted, everything has to be perfect. Since these types of festivities are short lived but impactful, he has to go all out. After all, he's doing this for the school's reputation, there's no cutting corners when it comes to promoting their excellence and prestige.
Speaking of duration, let's talk about long term investments... like Yuu and Ramshackle. To be honest, Crowley didn't need to provide Yuu with lodging or a means of earning Madol in order to survive within Twisted Wonderland and at NRC in general. HOWEVER, because he is such a generous soul, who is the paragon of kindness, he offered these things to both this otherworldly, "accidental" enrollee, and beast. Seeing that they will be useful to him-- ahem, seeing that Yuu was wrongly summoned to this world, he simply couldn't allow them to be homeless. Besides, if it were ever to get out that NRC kicked someone out because they were magicless and shouldn't even be there, that'd be a blow to the school's reputation. Crowley can't be having that sort of bad publicity looming over his beloved institution now, can he? So along with shelter, he also offers Yuu and Grim a job. A fair trade, one might say, considering that it solves problems regarding living conditions for the pair. Not to mention, this simulates the real world setting that Crowley often talks about during the Culinary Crucible, and along with that, this is also part of the Headmage's education style of letting students fix their own problems. That being the case, he makes sure to give them just what they need. He doesn't overcompensate them because rewards are meant to be earned. He gives them reasonable deals that's compensated properly without it being excessive... because this is a long term arrangement. It may not look like much, but Crowley's spending on Ramshackle is in increments. So if you stack that up, he's actually spending quite a lot on them without it being too apparent.
See?
At the end of the day, he is really quite magnanimous, wouldn't you agree?
Something About Night Raven College
ALRIGHT.
HEADCANON TIME.
Based from what I’ve read up on Book 6 regarding Crowley (I literally jumped chapters just to see what happened to him), not everything in Night Raven College is decided by him. If you remember, he did mention it in the prologue. He is appointed as Headmaster by the board chairman, of whom we know nothing about. At the very least we can make conjectures that the board chairman is the one calling the shots, and can come from either the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Magic, from a/the Parliament(?), or a representative of STYX (which may or may not be the case; again conjectures) as Crowley mentioned in Book 6.
With that in mind, I’d like to make a headcanon about this.
To begin, when it comes to facilities, amenities, and personnel, Night Raven College is not the type to lack in anything. With the donations that Crowley racks up from the parents of his beloved students, the facilities and amenities of the school and the dorms alike are well maintained and accounted for. So everything being used in them are included in the academy’s yearly budget. As for how it’s disseminated, it can either be implemented by the Headmaster himself, or it can be entrusted to the Housewardens directly; probably depending on just how massive or important the use for that budget is.
When it comes to personnel, I’d like to think that Crowley has some influence on what kind of professors and staff are inducted. Since he’s very particular about the education and learning, surely he’s the type to screen the teachers and those who align with NRC’s creed gets an automatic pass. This also goes from other staff such as the cooks, maintenance, and even the one who runs the campus store. However, when it comes to medically inclined positions like the infirmary nurse, magical doctors, and counselors, it’s the Ministry of Education that assigns them to the school. As he mentions by the end of Book 6, Night Raven College has all of these to ensure that the students are well taken care of no matter what happens or no matter what the situations is. As their families entrust their children to the school, it’s imperative to make sure that they are safe. Plus Crowley can’t afford revenue to dwindle.
With a reputation to uphold, our Headmaster has to maintain excellent standing when it comes to teaching techniques and practices, ensuring that both quality and prestige aren’t affected, regardless of the issue that arrives. And apparently, it’s not merely in the academics that NRC’s education is evaluated for. Based on what Dire mentioned as the saving grace to the school not getting in trouble regarding the incident, it’s in the way that the students conducted themselves to avert an even bigger crisis. Which now solidifies how good his methods are-- and by methods, this would be his personal agenda of having student related issues fixed by the students themselves.
“Ahem. As you know, there is more to education than mere classroom and textbook knowledge. While those are important, you must remember that the world beyond Night Raven College is not necessarily free of troubles. Far from it! As an educator, I am merely preparing you all for what's to come. See, am I not truly so very kind and benevolent?”
Every time I see Crowley, my love for him is utterly renewed. This Ghost Bride event as well as Book 5 just fuels it more.
Anyway, I have been working on an HC about him and NRC which I hope to post soon if my schedule lets me. Recently, I am just so, so busy... just like my muse.
Apparently though, I do not have any work tomorrow, so let's see if I can make some progress over here. Answer the people I need to answer. I do apologize for my spotty activity. And since you have all been so kind, I shall return the favor soon enough, by letting you air out your frustrations on Crowley.
===
"That does not seem to be fair."
===
Of course it is, Crowley.
I'll try to do more stuff on my blogs (yes, blogs) tomorrow. Know that the reason I am extra slow is because I'm taking care of an Oni on top of my usual work load. IF I am not around tomorrow, I'm probably FINALLY continuing the commissions that I have drafted. It's been a pretty tough time for me due to some unforeseen circumstances at home, and I couldn't focus on them because I don't wanna be giving my customers crap specially because they are spending. Since things have settled down and I think my art's a little more decent than normal, I can finally finish them. Hopefully, I can also finish the other things that I need to do now that I have some flow back.
So for those who commissioned me, and for those waiting on my writing, thank you so much for your patience.
Also. The Oni in question:
"A responsible adult should be well organized, and should have a well balanced schedule." And thus, he proceeds to formulate a good schedule for all the Yuu's so that they can all work for him efficiently.

“Headmaster…”
Of all people to show up at the dorm door. Yu gets the feeling that Crowely was going to come with all kinds of problems. He hasn’t been seen since the Styx incident
“Is this just a visit to check on me or do you need me to do something?”
“That you would think I’m here for some impossible quest… oh woe is me--”
Truly saddened! Immensely pained! the Headmaster hung his head low, hands raised briefly to lament this unjust accusation. Had Crowley ever given Yu any task that he couldn’t handle? Of course not! Dear Sevens, the only reason he employed his services was because of the trust that he had placed on the otherworldly student, along with the belief in his possibilities-- and maybe because living at Ramshackle wasn’t free, plus their agreement of Yu working for him as Night Raven College’s handyman had never really been revoked-- but either way, the mage would clear his throat thereafter.
“As much as there needs to be done around the campus, my visit for today entails something else.” Pointing to a seat, he gestured for the Prefect to sit down.
“Yu-kun, it is not that I doubt the validity of your claim, but are you certain that you have not been lying to me about this world that you’ve come from? This… Japan?” Straight to the point, the Headmaster asked.
"Here Mr. Crowley! Here!" Cheka called out as he ran towards the Headmaster holding out a piece of paper that he'd written out all by himself, at least as best as he could. "It's my 'appication'! I wanna go here and take classes with Uncle Leona t'day! I wanna do potion drinks and play soccer and whatever else he does."

“My, my, my. It seems that the young Prince is in high spirits today.”
A leisurely stroll through the halls of his beloved College often brought about a number of surprises. At times they were pleasant, others-- horrendous, and in certain occasions just like this one, it was quite curious and opportunate.
Sprinting behind him was the very personification of the Savannah’s radiant glow, Prince Cheka. A sheet of paper in hand which Crowley took in order to asses. “An application, you say?” For schooling at Night Raven College, no less. Would it break the young boy’s heart if he were to say that this wasn’t EXACTLY how one gets admitted into the school?
No, no. This is a young prince, it would not be prudent to reject a prince’s whims. Not to mention, we wouldn’t want to upset our relationship with Sunset Savanna over such a trifle matter.
He was simply too kind to let down a child so eager.
However…
“My apologies, young Kingscholar. You are simply too young to ‘go here and take classes’.” He began.
“However, since your request is but a day, I believe that I can arrange something for you. Mr. Kingscholar is an outstanding young man, so surely taking classes with him for a day should do no harm.” He ended with that signature grin of his. "Ah, truly my graciousness knows no bounds!"
Crowley told no lie. Leona was one of the more astounding students here at NRC, and yet his rather problematic sense of indolence holds him back. Perhaps the illusion of the institution thinking about accepting younger students… with the young Prince as the test model, could get him a little more eager to actually stop getting held a year back and actually graduate.
Crowley's about to ruin someone's school life in the next few minutes.
Bold of you to assume you're going home.
what kind of hot are you?
"I implore that you pay close attention when we're having our special lessons."
math tutor hot
you're really not here for romance, at all. but whenever you actually interact with people, they're smitten with you. you might be usually overlooked, but for some reason whenever you're helping a peer who likely wasn't responsible enough to study like you told them to before the session, they're always paying rapt attention. you roll your eyes and lecture them whenever they seem distracted, staring at you or the floor instead of the textbook. but it's the moments where you raise an eyebrow, half impressed, and give them a quiet "good work" that makes you such a successful tutor. your praise is hard to come by, and people are certainly going to work to hear it again.

“Um…” Cheka blinked as a hand landed on his head giving it a pat. “I dunno what ‘fogegy’ means but it looks like a beak.”
Was that it’s name? It was quite odd to give an appendage a name then again the man was quite eccentric himself from the Prince’s understanding. Slipping out from under Crowley’s hand, the cub canted his head already growing curious about the beak itself. A hand went forward towards the beak’s tip of the mask wanting to lift it up.
“I wanna see what’s under it though.”
@crowsultations
He chuckled. Perhaps the word was a little too advanced for such a young mind. However, this boy IS Kingscholar’s kin, there was nothing to worry about.
“If you say the word slower, it will sound like 'For-Jer-ry'.” First of, teach the child how to say it properly. A good educator corrects the things that need correcting. “And that you’ve decided that it looks like a real beak, means that you are on the right track of knowing what it means. Simply put, young Kingscholar, it is a copy of something real.”
The next words that the boy uttered was somewhat problematic. But instead of showing panic or concern when the prince placed a hand on the beak of his mask, the Headmage’s purple tinted lips curved up into a smile. Children were naturally curious-- and since Crowley himself was the very soul of generosity and amicability, rather than having his important guest feeling deprived, he uttered the following:
“If you are brave enough to pull it, then you are welcome to see under it.” So, was a surprise awaiting the young Prince Cheka?
Only time can tell.
LET ME JUST SCREAM FOR A WHILE ABOUT HOW ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE CHECKA IS.
