I hate when older people use the umbrella term “oh that’s how teenagers are”.
No.
Not all teenagers are depressed. Not all teenagers get bullied. Not all teenagers are ‘going through a phase’. Not all teenagers are ‘lazy and unintelligent’. Not all teenagers are embarrassed by their parents 'because they’re teenagers’.
Some teenagers are depressed. Some teenagers are bullied. Some teenagers are actually lgbt*q+. Some teenagers are so tired because of all the stress of balancing school, family, friends, jobs, and more that they are perceived as 'lazy’. Some teenagers are embarrassed by their parents because their parents make them feel so insignificant and unwanted that they don’t want anyone else to see what their parents do.
But we are not a umbrella term. We are not going to be put in a category that’s making so many feel terrible and that is erasing problems at hand.
We are teenagers. But we are not a generalization.
