What's your take on hayffie? Also cressida, Portia cinna etc
Hayeffie Movie: Hell yeah.
Cressida: She, Lavinia, and Fulvia are all in this really interesting space for me as Capitol women where they seem straightforward, but when you read them a little closer, the implications of their identities are fascinating.
I am team Cressida, a gamemaker dropout. Here's my textual support 1) When they first get to the shop, Cressida takes her hood off so Tigris can recognize her. 2) Cressida references understanding how Plutarch thinks from a control room perspective. 3) When the team is defending Katniss's "I'm here to kill Snow Lie" Cressida drops the info that Snow's been releasing presidential broadcasts from his personal living quarters and that Peeta is their guide to those quarters.
It's also always struck me as strange that katniss isn't aware of those additional broadcasts and makes me wonder what was in them.
Portia: Mystery lady. Was she a rebel? Was she just a nice woman who looked after Peeta where she could? I've always been intrigued by her execution in that it signals a shift in the Capitol's view on the war. Executing public figures/ Capitol citizens on live TV implies that Snow was rattled by the lose of the victors, even if Boggs thinks it was too easy to rescue them.
Cinna: In the same morally gray category as Mr. Plutarch Heavensbee. He turned Katniss into the mockingjay on the night of quell interviews without her knowledge or consent. Yes, he made Fulvia promise not to show the mockingjay suit designs to katniss until she was willing to be the mockingjay but he made that choice for her when he burned away her wedding dress.
Fulvia Cardew: She is movie Effie. Slightly harsh in her delivery, but rereading her as an adult, she and Finnick seem to have a decent rapport. She's not saying mean things just to be cruel. I agree with her assessment that releasing the concussed and impulsive teenager into a warzone to collect footage is a bad idea.
Her disappearance halfway through Mockingjay is suspicious, especially given that Coin seems to prefer Fulvia over Plutarch.
Plutarch: Problematic king. I see him as a morally gray man who was willing to lose anyone (including himself) if it got them to a free Panem. The scene where he's frustrated with Haymitch and Beetee for not being more excited about Peeta's rescue was so frustrating to me as a tween, but now it breaks my heart a little because we know that peeta's rescue triggers the execution of Portia and the preps, and we know, per Haymitch, that Plutarch blows several deep cover assets to get them.
He does lose that goodwill when he asks a traumatized Katniss about being on his new singing show, though. Like holy cheesecake man have some class.
As a whole, I want more love for the Capitol rebels in this fandom. They're nuanced, and they did their part.
