My vagina doesn't work.
Have you ever heard of vaginismus? Do you suffer form it? If yes, please interact with this post.
Wikipedia defines vaginismus as "a condition in which involuntary muscle spasm interferes with vaginal intercourse or other penetration of the vagina. This often results in pain with attempts at sex."
Now, let me tell you something about my personal experience.
Most people with vaginismus find out about it when first trying to insert a tampon. This wasn't the case for me. I live in Italy, and I feel like it's important for me to say this because Italian culture is quite different from American culture in many ways, especially when it comes to women and periods. As I understand from social media, cinema and television, Americans use tampons a lot. On the contrary, in Italy mothers don't usually teach their daughters how to use a tampon: we mostly use pads when we first get our periods, because it is believed that you can only wear tampons after losing your virginity. Now, I know that virginity is a social construct and that tampons don't break your hymen, but I definitely didn't know this when I was 14. When you're that age, it's perfectly normal here to say that you can't go to the beach because you're on your period, so I never felt like I was missing out on anything.
As I grew older most of my friends started having sex and wearing tampons, while I was never really interested in putting anything in my vagina. I realized I was asexual, I didn't really feel sexual attraction towards anyone, and I was fine with it. As I hit my twenties, I started to explore my sexuality a bit more, and I tried masturbating. I realized that, even though I didn't have sexual attraction, I still had libido and my body still answered to clitoris stimulation, so I decided that I would try sex.
I started dating my first boyfriend at 21, and after trying some hand stuff (and really liking it) we decided to take it to the next step and try penetrative sex. That's where the problems began. Rubbing my clit feels amazing and I can easily climax with that alone, so I thought that sex would feel good too. It didn't.
At first I thought it was normal to feel pain your first time, and I didn't really think much about it, I just thought it was the breaking of the hymen or something. Then we tried again, and it was still very painful. I thought I just had a very thight vagina and it would eventually "loosen up", or maybe my boyfriend was just too large.
If I were to describe the pain I feel, I would say it's like inserting a dagger in my vagina. The tip goes in fine, then it feels like the tunnel gets narrower and you have to use some force to go through. That's what hurts the most, it's this excruciating, stinging pain, and it happens every. single. time.
My boyfriend has always been very patient about it. What usually works for us and allows us to have penetrative sex is taking it real slow. As soon as he gets inside me and I feel that burning pain, I ask him to stop, but not to get it out. So I stay still, with his dingdong not even halfway in there, for a couple minutes, and eventually my muscles relax around it and he goes a little bit further in. Then I stop him again, I wait for my muscles to relax, and we repeat this until he is all the way in. And after another couple minutes, the pain usually goes away and we can have penetrative sex.
For the longest time, I didn't think it was vaginismus. Most people with this condition tend to describe it as the penis hitting a wall and not being able to go through it, but in my case it's more like a very narrow tunnel than a wall, so I thought that he was just too large and I was just too tight.
Then, last summer, I tried tampons for the first time, at the ripe age of 22. I managed to get it in, but it was quite painful, as if it was scratching the walls of that tiny tunnel. I had to get it out after about 30 minutes because, depending on how I moved, I felt like the tampon hit the walls of the tunnel, and it was very painful.
That's when I realized it might indeed be vaginismus. I've never seen a gyno, my mom never let me, and I've just learned to live with the pain.
If you've experienced something like that, do you think it's vaginismus? What would you do if you were me? I wanted to see a gyno, but my mom says you only go to the gyno if you're pregnant or if you have problems with your period, "going for a checkup" is definitely not a part of our culture. I talked to her about the tampon thing, and she said "just wear pads and don't go to the beach when you're on your period". I don't want to book an appointment without her knowing, because I still live with her and I don't have a job, so it would mean stealing her money to pay, and that just feels wrong.
What should I do?
shout out to “sex education” on Netflix for being the first to mention vaginismus on any form of media I’ve ever seen. it’s important to talk about it when so many women suffer in silence.
sometimes you just gotta put your hand up your shirt and hold ur boob and thats life
i think bc of youtube and instagram which advertise and invest in their popular creators people forget that “big” tumblr users are just accidentally popular and that NO ONE is backing their sails. we don’t talk to or hang out with each other. there’s not a convention or ad money to encourage collaboration bc what would we even collaborate on. there are no big tumblr trends or memes or in jokes. if i could make $1000 in ad revenue writing a shitpost with setheverman don’t you think id have done it. i am untethered from earth and reality, alone in the dark i can’t recall the taste of strawberries
We should make a tumblr convention so this can happen :)

I think I already reblogged this but im gonna do it again because this is a good reminder on how toxic gatekeeping it.
I’m reblogging this for the amount of thought that was put into figuring out the necessary configuration for a mertaur wheelchair.
MMMMM, the LAYERS to this.
She’s technically a monster too. She might not look it at first glance and seems mostly human, but it isn’t deniable even despite her looks compared to the other monsters.
But she realizes that she is still not like the rest of the monsters either and may not have entirely the same experiences as them, which is why she feels that she might not belong to or deserve to go to the support group. By sometimes passing as human, she feels she isn’t worthy of the space.
The sad reality though is even though she’s mostly human in appearance, that tail she has undeniably would still cause her some struggle. Humans are still gonna look at that tail and think she’s a freak. There are probably still accommodations she needs because of the tail that she may still struggle to have access to. Even if it is just the tail, that tail is still enough to other her from humans and cause her problems and discrimination.
She should get to belong in that support group even if she gets told she’s not monster “enough”. She still shares some of the same struggles as them that are caused by being a monster, and needs support.
This is an excellent demonstration of the flaws in the concept of passing privilege. Bravo to the artist.
NOW I will reblog this.
