the problem with (most of) those lists of "said alternatives" is that the words they list have such different connotations, and those words are treated as interchangeable.
"yelled" and "bellowed" don't mean the same thing - "yelled" implies raw, uncontrollable anger and sometimes desperation, while "bellowed" implies intimidation in the form of anger or an order.
you can't replace "said loudly and desperately" with "roared" because "roared" is the animalistic, often manipulative equivalent of "bellow" and isn't desperate in any way, shape or form.
there's this one list floating around on tunglr dot com dot org dot uk that's genuinely good, and separates the verbs based on connotations, but it's the only one of its kind that i've ever seen.
tl;dr: the term "said is dead" has a lot of fucking gall when the alternatives to "said" are often dead, cremated, and in a goddamn cardboard box ten thousand feet under the ground
