❀ — 𝒲𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝒾𝓉 𝒷𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒾𝒻 𝓈𝒽𝑒 𝒽𝒶𝒹𝓃'𝓉 𝒶𝓅𝓅𝑒𝒶𝓇𝑒𝒹 𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒? Over the last week or so, that’st the conclusion Rose came up with. With the truth out in the open, her presence here continued to hurt those once closest to her. For the better part of her time, she decided to keep her distance, not wanting to intentionally hurt someone by being around. Of course, that was unavoidable wasn’t it? She was here now, she would be here until whatever forces beyond her control deemed her presence here unnecessary and send her off again, as it has happened many times before.
This time, she didn’t have anywhere to run and quite frankly? Rose didn’t see a reason to. Right now, all she wanted was to stop hurting others, if she could help it. Whether or not she could fix it, well, that was up to the others.
So, when Garnet’s voice rang out before her, Rose steadied herself, her expression remaining neutral. Happy as she was to reunite with her old friend, she doubted the other felt the same way. Rightfully so, too.
“You know how terrible I am at jokes Garnet.”
Her voice is a usual calm, like clear skies after a storm. She raises her gaze, looking directly at her long time companion, admiring everything she’s known of her and her new look–rings, was it? Her heart swelled in joy and guilt. Well, no time like the present to see how the other was fairing.
“I’m here. I’m… I’m glad to see you.” She wants to say more, wants to make her genuine feelings known but she doesn’t want to get her hopes up, knowing all the pain she’s caused her in her absence. If the other chooses to voice her frustrations, Rose doesn’t want to leave any room to make it about what she wants. “…whatever you’d like to say, please. I’d like to hear it. Judging from what Steven’s told me and Pearl– well. Where would you like to start?”
At the very least, Rose knew what was coming. Garnet didn’t know how to feel about it. On one hand, she knew she was furious. She didn’t know if it was Ruby or Sapphire, but one of them didn’t want to even have this conversation. Want to even see Rose right now. But at the same time, the other was keeping her feet planted firm. In any other moment, Garnet would have unfused from the disagreement.
So all she could do was wave her hands in front of her in quick circles, trying to come up with words. Trying to keep any emotion pinned down long enough to voice more than a couple words at a time. When she did, tears were showing at the very edge of the glasses hiding her eyes.
Garnet was hurt, that much was the truth.
“Not once!” She began, hands shaking in rage. “Not a single future! Not a single one where you told us the truth! You had thousands of years after the war to tell us but you didn’t!” Garnet hadn’t been sure if she could get the words out, but now that she started, she wasn’t sure if she could actually stop herself.
“What did you even want?! To be equal with the other Gems? That can’t be it! You put yourself above us all, put yourself in power without ever once asking if that’s what we wanted!” The tears were flowing freely, three streams converging as she squeezes her hands against her head– trying desperately to get the right words.
“You never even trusted us enough! After your lies left so many of our friends dead! Not in any of the thousands of years we spent having to.. having to fight them did you once consider telling us, did you?! What were we to you, Rose?
What were any of the Crystal Gems to you?!”
Her voice had risen to what was almost a scream. So uncharacteristic of the stoic fusion. Garnet couldn’t help it. She couldn’t defuse, leaving so many thoughts and emotions of the two gems clashing together with her own. She couldn’t be calm. Not when so much was bubbling to the surface.
