Plan B

Softbank capital is the venture capital of Softbank Group Corp., a Japanese multinational telecommunications corporation. Softbank capital has invested in several prominent tech companies across the world.

Recently, they unveiled a fund called the Vision Fund. Vision Fund is an investment fund backed by sovereign nations Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as well as tech giants including Apple, Qualcomm and Sharp. Having raised $93 billion so far, it’s the largest technology investment fund ever.

Soft Bank has decided to set up an additional fund with different investors. Given the technological oriented approach of the Vision Fund, Soft Bank is looking to diversify into different sectors. The fund will be investing in two start-ups in the selected industry. The start-ups to be selected should have gone through at least one round of funding and should be looking for additional investments.

You are the strategic advisor of Soft Bank and your task at hand is to create a separate fund For Soft Bank with a new motive and target industry to be pitched to the board of Soft Bank. You will be investing in two start-ups in the industry selected for the fund.

Make a report of 15-20 pages with the following deliverables:

Rebuild the Nest

Powdered milk or dried milk is a manufactured dairy product which is widely used as a substitute for milk. One such product is the breast milk substitute produced by Swiss transnational food and Drink Company Nestle. This product is developed by processing a complicated formula which can be used to feed children ageing below 12 months.

You are in the year 1984. For over 20 years, beginning with a Pan American Health Organisation allegation, Nestlé has been directly or indirectly charged with involvement in the death of Third World infants. The charges revolve around the sale of infant feeding formula, which allegedly is the cause for mass deaths of babies in the Third World. Report suggests that powdered-formula manufacturers contributed to the death of Third World infants by hard-selling their products to people incapable of using them properly.

The formula had found its way to Amazon tribes deep in the jungles of northern Peru. There, where the only water comes from a highly contaminated river—which also serves as the local laundry and toilet. Formula fed babies came down with recurring attacks of diarrhea and vomiting. Throughout the Third World, many parents dilute the formula to stretch their supply. Some even believe the bottle itself has nutrient qualities and merely fill it with water. The result was extreme malnutrition

The marketing strategies used by nestle was extremely unprincipled. They used their own employees to disguise as nurses of the hospitals to promote the product. They provided powdered breast milk cans free in the hospital gradually turning this product a necessity for the children. The product actually cost 50% of the family income hence the family is not capable of buying it afterwards.

You are the chief strategic officer of Nestle and your task at hand is to revive Nestle and revive NAN in the developing world in 1984.

For your task today, you are allowed to collaborate with the participants of HR. You will be provided the contact details of the HR participants and can call them for help on the HR aspects of the round. You are, however, required to make the report with all the deliverables individually.

If you are asked for help, then ensure that you give a written consent along with both your signatures. The United States Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency that is tasked with detecting and preventing illegal aliens, terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States, and preventing illegal trafficking of people and contraband. Operating under the parent agency of the Department of Homeland Security, the USBP has a workforce of 21,000 agents and officers. The USBP is one of the most important organizations in terms of curbing illegal immigration, and its importance is only exacerbated by the country’s new policies on immigration.

Despite the fact that a majority of the agents in USBP are from minority communities, the agency has been facing a lot of criticism for its treatment of immigrants, especially illegal ones. Since January 2010, at least 46 people have died as the result of an encounter with U.S. border agents. Many more have been brutalized, in some cases causing life-altering injuries. This has resulted in protests across the country against the human rights violations committed by the agents.

You have to come up with strategies to change the agency internally, to present to the Chiefs of USBP. The focus of the strategies can include treatment of immigrants in the future improving the efficiency of the agency. The following deliverables are expected:

· Identification of the causes that led to the problems (HR issues and other strategic issues)

· Strategies to change people’s perception of the agency as a violent one

· Methods of improving the efficiency of the agency, after considering all the internal changes made

Resurrection

The Libyan Civil War, was an armed conflict in 2011, in the North African country of Libya, fought between forces loyal to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and those seeking to oust his government. The war was preceded by protests in Zawiya on 8 August 2009, and finally ignited by protests in Benghazi beginning on Tuesday, 15 February 2011, which led to clashes with security forces that fired on the crowd.The protests escalated into a rebellion that spread across the country

In August, rebel forces launched an offensive on the government-held coast of Libya, taking back territory lost months before and ultimately capturing the capital city of Tripoli, while Gaddafi evaded capture and loyalists engaged in a rear-guard campaign. On 16 September 2011, the National Transitional Council was recognised by the United Nations as the legal representative of Libya, replacing the Gaddafi government. Muammar Gaddafi remained at large until 20 October 2011, when he was captured and killed in Sirte. The National Transitional Council "declared the liberation of Libya" and the official end of the war on 23 October 2011.

In the aftermath of the civil war, a low-level insurgency by former Gaddafi loyalists continued. There have been various disagreements and strife between local militia and tribes. A much greater issue has been the role of militias which fought in the civil war and their role in the new Libya. Some have refused to disarm and cooperation with the NTC has been strained, leading to demonstrations against militias and government action to disband such groups or integrate them into the Libyan military.

The country is leaderless as there is deep political imbalance between the NTC, the Rebels and the tribes of Libya

You are in the year 2012 and you are the strategic representative of the United Nations Mission. Your task at hand is to prepare a comprehensive report to solve the current crisis in Libya and focus on rebuilding the country.
