“Who told you that? I don’t think they’re reliable... at all.”
nglnoah:
Noah chuckled and shook his head, “No, no. I don’t mind. We can start with the cake. It’s probably the best thing here,” He got out a knife and cut a slice for him and her. He took a bite for himself and sighed in content. It was good. He collected another bit on his fork and held it out to her, “Go on, try it. It’s heavenly.”
Emma reached out and took the fork to take the bite offered to her. “Oh, Gods, this is amazing. Who helped you? Are you lying to me about being a master chef?”
“You hear things. Besides I like to think that we’re friends, and I just wanted to do something nice.”
Emma really couldn’t stop the smile moving across her features. “I really appreciate it, Thanks, Vienna.”
“If you ask me, that’s the best time to celebrate. Coffee’s probably the safest drug to be on during a party as well if you think about it logically.”
Emma paused for a moment as she thought over what he had just said. “That’s... actually really true. When’d you think that up?”
“Alright– I’ll let you off easy this time,” she teased with a soft laugh.
“Ah, thank you. I appreciate it. Should I prepare for next time?” Emma jokingly asked
“Chili con carne should not be available here if there are no good toilet facilities around.”
Emma made a face at his words, “You don’t have to get it, there are other things that you can get.”
“Can we at least get drunk? That’s a pretty important part of your twenty-first birthday.”
“Maybe. I don’t think I have any good alcohol. Noah might have something, but I don’t think he’ll want to share. Unless you do?”
“Good,” Noah replied with a grin. So far so good. The new relationship was going good so far and it felt right being here with her. He’d said it before but he hadn’t felt this way since June. If anything, he was starting to feel more for her than he had for his late girlfriend. It seemed fast but Noah usually fell hard when he did. He’d prevented himself from doing that for five years and now he was opening his heart up to someone he’d already opened up to, “That’s chocolate fudge cake,” Noah said with a laugh, “I suppose we could go straight to dessert if you’d prefer that,” He teased.
“Hey, don’t be mean. It’s not my fault that it looks good.” She answered with a small laugh. “Do you not want to start with dessert? It looks like you have a lot of different foods- we can start with anything,” Emma then said. She soon realised that it felt very good to be with Noah, and times like this completely reconfirmed that for her, not that she could ever forget how she felt with him. She completely loved the feeling she got when she was with him.
“Um, you sound like me on my birthday and then you gave me shit for it,” James replies with a smile. “Of course I’m doing something for your birthday.”
“Okay, that’s not fair- it was your seventeenth birthday, that’s a big deal. You don’t need to make mine a big one.”
“Well then that works out since I had no clue it was your birthday. Sorry, Em.”
“Don’t be sorry, seriously. I’m trying to keep it lowkey- I’m running on way too much coffee for a celebration.”
“Alright-y then. I’ll just finish these cupcakes all by myself then.”
“You made cupcakes? How’d you even know?”
“Maybe? Oh honey– it’s a definitely. I can feel it.”
“Okay, you can paint them next time I stay over, just- You can still fight with painted nails, right? Because that’s kinda important.”
“Please. What kind of friend would I be if I let the second most important day of the year go by uncelebrated?”
“A pretty good friend? Honestly, if we can find some more of that Coffee cake we had last time, I’ll be happy.”
“You don’t have to do anything for my birthday, it’s okay.”
Noah chuckled, “I came up with everything and did most of it. I just needed help. Unless you wanted a burnt meal,” He placed a hand on her cheek and stroked her cheekbone with his thumb, “You’re welcome,” He said quietly with a smile and then he dropped his hand, “So what would you like first?”
“I suppose for those reasons I can excuse it,” She joked, giving a small laugh. Emma soon learnt that she really liked having his hand on her. It didn’t feel unnatural in the slightest, instead, it just felt right. It felt the opposite once he dropped his hand from her face. “Uhhm,” Emma hummed at his question, looking at the food in front of them. “What’s that?” She asked, pointing to something, “Can we try that?”
“Uhh… yeah?” Noah scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, wondering if that was okay and he sighed with relief at her next words, “Good. I’m glad you like it,” He gestured to the blanket, “Why don’t we get right to it then?” He asked with a smile, his nerves slowly fading but still lingering in the back of his mind, “I made your favorite,” He paused, “Well, I didn’t make it on my own. I had someone in the Demeter cabin help me.”
The smile on her face absolutely refused to leave her face, even when she saw the worry on his face at her words. By keeping the smile on her face, she thought it would help remove the worry on his. “Okay,” She said, following him to sit. “That’s cheating, you had to make it all by yourself,” Emma teased, “I love all of this, thank you.”
“General observation is enough.”
“Not always, sometimes you need a bit more than just that.”
