Planning permission wasn’t an issue for the giants gym, they simply took the land they wanted and didn’t much care what happened to any of the buildings that were on it or their occupants. Houses, shops, offices, schools, hospitals had all found themselves claimed by the gym as it expanded, often flattened under thousand ton weights, or obliterated under thousands of tons and acres of solid muscle. It only got bigger as its fame grew, with some giants crossing continents or even swimming across oceans just to train there. Life soon became impossible in the once thriving metropolis as the grunts and roars of the colossal muscle men blew out windows, and made thousands deaf, and the constant banging and dropping of weights made building collapses a daily occurrence. Eventually the entire population of ten million were forced to flee, leaving everything behind to the mercy of the giants. It’s thought that many priceless works of art have been lost for ever as satellite images show that most of the city’s historic cultural quarter, including it’s world famous museum and art gallery, and it’s gothic cathedral appears to have been flattened to make way for a squat rack. Despite being abandoned, energy and water use in the city has rise by over 2000%, much of the electricity going on the 50gw sound system that blasts out 24/7 and can be heard over 100 miles away, and in one afternoon over 2 million gallons of clean drinking water was used at three off the vast bodybuilders decided to cool off after a hard leg day with a water fight. It’s thought that as many as 250,000 people could remain trapped underground in the now blacked out subway network, most of the stations now being destroyed or blocked. Their fate is unknown.
