Some pony species headcanons

Horses!!

Horses are considered one of the oldest species in Equestria. They have the smallest traces of magic in their DNA, which is contained in their hooves. Pure bred* horses are typically naturally colored, ranging in various patterns and shades of white, grey, brown, and black. Many horses have mixed lineages and their colors and patterns have inherited the magic properties of their pony counterparts. That being said, horses with those lineages may have duller magical colors unless their appearance is altered by a unicorn.

*A pure bred is an individual whose lineage has remained within its own species. To be considered “pure bred”, the lineage must contain the same species for at least 10 generations.

Classic Horses

Classic horses have bulky frames sporting natural muscles. Their hooves are wide and flat.

Crystal Pony

Crystal ponies originate from the Crystal Empire. They contain more magic in their DNA than other horse subspecies. They are a slimmer build and have crystal hooves. They have round eyes and slim facial features. Their hair is excessively shiny and often very thick.

The Crystal Empire in my headcanon is based on ancient / medieval Greece! I'll be trying to incorporate Greek facial features into their designs C:

Mountain Horses

Mountain horses are thought to be descendants of Saint Rockhoof. They are taller, more muscular, and have larger, heavier hooves than other horses. They tower over their counterparts and have thicker coats.

queen fluttershy x king thorax (so much lore here) - divorced previously: fluttershy x discord

duchess rainbow dash x thunderlane - divorced previously: rainbow dash x zephyr breeze

duchess rarity x trenderhoof (subject to change, considering rarity and fancy pants)

the only one i'm a little unsure of is applejack, because i want someone who shares her values of hard work and honesty. i might do a poll later

i pretend that instead of the mane 6 growing old and twilight having to end up alone (although the opportunity for angst in that case is delicious), that since the mane 6 are connected to the elements of harmony and to twilight, that her immortality passes onto them to some degree

their physical bodies pass on, but their spirits remain tethered to her and so she's not totally alone. they're there where only she can see them, and that's okay

Im late to this but i wanted to do it anyways xP

This au takes place before twilight gets her wings, and heres some context under the cut to how this all started:

based my rainbow dash off of this image and a peregrine falcon for her wings! (all of my infection au designs are really close to the regular designs i have but with adjustments! dash specfically has not cut her hair since everything has happened. she can't be bothered to)

Rainbow Dash

"Do you guys not see how hard she is working to fix this? Twilight is killing herself to find a cure, and you all have turned your backs on her! What kind of friends are you?" Rainbow Dash, the Element of Loyalty, lives up to her title. Twilight may have made a horrible, maybe even unforgivable mistake -- but at least she was trying her best to fix it? Why couldn't they see that? When she heard the explosion from Twilight's home, she flew over as fast as she could. The door was locked, the curtains were closed, but it didn't stop her. She crashed through the window to find the house in shambles, and Twilight huddled over Spike's body, sobbing uncontrollably. She and her baby dragon were covered in this weird pink sparkly..goop. She couldn't imagine what had happened - maybe Twilight tried that spell she said she wanted to do but couldn't...she didn't see the Elements of Harmony anywhere - so perhaps that wasn't it. Dash tried to console Twilight, but her friend snapped at her, yelled at her to go away and leave her alone. It hurt her to leave, but Twilight needed time. She was so brokenhearted... The news of Spike's condition travelled fast after his attack and rampage. So many ponies were mauled or wounded by him. Twilight tried to reason with him, but Spike wasn't listening to her. He wasn't listening to anyone. Everything changed that day. No one knew what was going to happen, not even Twilight. They all blamed her. They were so angry, and even though it was justified, that was no reason to leave her in the dust. She didn't mean for any of this to happen. She just wanted Spike back. Wouldn't they have done the same thing? Dash continued to stay by Twi's side, bringing her food, checking up on her, making sure she's had some water. Sometimes, she finds Twilight passed out on the floor or at her desk. Dash has read some of the unsent letters to Celestia that she's written. Twilight blames herself, too. She knows her friends have abandoned her... That is why Dash won't abandon her. How could she? Twilight needed her. She needed someone to check on her, someone to be her friend.

fluttershy's wings are based on a doves and are smaller than average. it doesnt hinder her from flying, but it does hinder her from gaining much speed.
