it’s so disappointing to me as a white person to see others try to say black people cannot gravitate towards a certain character or get mad that they do. there was a study done during segregation i believe where they took african american girls and gave them a choice between two dolls. a white one, and a black one, and they always wanted the white one because the black one was deemed negative. they had been taught their features were ugly, that they were evil, while admiring the white doll for being perfect and good. the study was to show separate but equal didn’t exist, that these little girls would start crying when they had to pick the doll that represented them. i think it’s beautiful that we have grown a bit, that in shows there are black characters little girls can love, that there are characters they gravitate towards. it makes me happy to know that if you show an african american girl a doll that is them, they’ll be happy and not think of these bad things about themselves but actually have something to relate to.
agree^ unfortunately theyve done a repeat of this experiment and the results are pretty similar to the original but thats largely just due to texurism and colorism still being a huge issue in well everything, but yeah it changes a lot to see people that look like you on screen and it rlly doesnt take much to have good representation for any person of color rlly esp when brown people make up a a majority of the population like really this should be the standard
