hiii! back in los angeles and playing a rlly sick show tn at @welcometojuniorhigh with @gobbinjr @belly_belt and @bedroomwitch. come hang and make friends and meet my bb casio guitar (yes, that's a built in tape deck + amplifier). starts at 7 and ends at 10 bc we all love when the gig ends early 🌸
found this poster from my first show in new york + my first show at shea stadium during it's first year open in 2009. i made music as philip seymour hoffman (long story) and remember someone at fader writing a piece about how pissed off their dad would have been if they tried to see their favorite actor speak at their favorite field to catch a ball game and how we were contributing towards ruining the last grasp of honesty in this world or whatever. glad they were right. ecstatic that shea exists and met their kickstarter goal within four hours. keep donating tho :) (at Shea Stadium)
love the gig 🎶 (at Joshua Tree National Park)

happy birthday to my mom who is hands down the strongest, dedicated, and most selfless person that i will ever know. if you grew up in los angeles you've definitely seen the community gardens, miles of trees, or any number of sustainability initiatives throughout the city that she's founded or found funding for. from the late 70s through the early 00s while heading the special education department at dorsey high she brought a million dollars worth of grants to crenshaw that funded a nutritional program so that inner city schools weren't being fed poison by the state, that made field trips possible and brought hundreds of students to the beach and to the snow for their first time, that paid for years worth of extracurricular programs for students to receive educational opportunities outside of a corrupt and severely underfunded school system, that planted over a thousand trees along exposition blvd covering the old train tracks (well, now there's a train again), and that's just a few of her projects. in a profile the la times called her "her own nonprofit organization" and i'm just beyond proud to have been raised by this single mom, thriving despite being diagnosed with guillain-barré, who has taught me to treat the world as family. that we each need to be present and accountable for one another if any of us are going to make it through life meaningfully. you're a hero to me and i love you very much 💕
stoked to be sharing sounds at the smell tonight in a tender b2b with damaris paz. also just want to talk about how special this place is... after thriving for nineteen years in downtown la and giving a home to so many throughout the city (the world, rlly) the smell is going to be demolished and most likely redeveloped into condos unless we as a community can raise the funds to either buy the building or help this force find a new home. i've been coming here since i was in high school, playing here since 2010, and with the current losses of non plus ultra and pehrspace los angeles' music community is losing consistent and welcoming spaces quickly. support your community arts spaces! thank you for existing! and thnx @hullygrams for taking this sick pic of gerald and i playing cf songs at junior high 🌸
tfw two of your fav ppl come to town so you go searching for the meaning of life
made it to nah fair just before it ended and was so fucking floored by the incredible, meaningful, and mandatory dialogue. idk who organized this but thank you. ungovernable af 🔥 (at Downtown Los Angeles)

"but what can we do as an arts space?" as a community arts space you have a personal responsibility to organize against fascism, to support the work of neglected + underrepresented voices, to make jobs for those that others don't make room for. not just for your aesthetic and ideological kin but for the neighbors on your block, the locally owned businesses, the folx without permanent residence. open your doors during the day. nurture community outside of gigs. fundraise to reallocate funds for collectives and community orgs that thrive on every dollar. host workshops for girls rock camps, knowing your rights, de-escalation, bicycle maintenance, checking in. start a freeskool. open a zine library. open source and decentralize your administrative models. let everyone in (unless they're a nazi). go to your community board meetings. learn about tenant's rights in your district and stand together. community arts spaces are platforms for the voices that need them! in these spaces we inhabit and practice for the world that we want to exist outside. shoutout the smell for recognizing and throwing up this sick mural. (at The Smell)
hmu if here. i'm yelling "teen vogue will save us all" at the boujee's doing brunch and making my way to the metro detention center in support of multiple transnational im/migrant women's groups. this detention center is an immigrant prison right in the heart of downtown la and needs to be shut the fuck down. no one is illegal. see u there. 🖤 (at Downtown Los Angeles)
one week :') (at Junior High)
took myself on a date last night to see moonlight at one of the first theaters in the country & felt v blessed to be in the company of the director, composer, most of the cast, and a live orchestra that played through the soundtrack. i'm now and eternally a puddle of feels / hmu if you want my voice memo of the discussion that these brilliant ppl had following the film 🌚 (at Million Dollar Theater)
