Tringtring - a new charming artisan food delivery service in Amsterdam

A new delivery service by bike. Several of the best artisan food stores and restaurants are connected. Even the spectaculair cheeses of Abraham Kef can be ordered using TringTring. TringTring is currently in béta.

TringTring is like an environmental friendly Uber for good food in Amsterdam. You can order food & drinks using TringTring, but you can also register to deliver food by bike.

Yesterday we tried it! At the end of a beautiful day, we were looking forward to some food and drinks in the park. How nice would it be to have some of the best food of Amsterdam delivered to us by bike, in the park, within an hour, while we are enjoying the sun?!

We ordered some hummus from Sir Hummus, using TringTring. Within an hour it was being delivered in the park to us. Awesome!

DAAROM

Spotted last week on Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven: Daarom. (=why not?) Perfect commercials for peanut butter by met/zonder. Why not?

Some ideas arise in the shower or at the pub. Without an underlying problem, question or need. Such ideas are often cast aside; too simplistic, not thought through. But an idea can become valid simply by executing it. This view is called WHY NOT (Dutch: DAAROM.) It can be projected onto any product. Maartje Slijpen and Merel Witteman have taken peanut butter as an example. Why peanut butter? Because it gives you the energy to turn ideas into realities, because design could use some oomph, because it’s a spread that goes with anything, because sometimes there’s no specific reason, so WHY NOT!

These lovely guys from Cirque Gastronomique can make you any flavour of ice cream you can think of: live! Using nitrogen and a lot of magic they put up a magnificent show. 

They just did this on Dutch national television: preparing weed ice for the Spuiten & Slikken show.

Food for thought - the in Vitro Meat Cookbook

A cookbook that is half fiction, half scientific - about vitro meat. Vitro meat is test-tube meat, meat that - besides the fetal calf serum - is not or does not come from an animal. In vitro meat could provide a sustainable and animal-friendly alternative to meat as we know it today.

By looking in this beautifully illustrated book we can play a 'what if' game and spark ideas about the future of our food. 

The cookbook presents 45 recipes that explore and visualize what vitro meat products might be on our plate one day. As in vitro meat is still being developed you cannot cook our recipes just yet.

'This was the news' - theme dinner

Two weeks ago it finally was time for a theme dinner again! The theme this time was 'this was the news', which means that all courses had to be the translation of a news item into a dish. 

Quite a challenge, but the challenge was happily accepted again.

Of course also this time we had very special guests: Claudia, Hero, Kees and Lou. Claudia & Hero also prepared some really awesome news-related dishes.

Please have a look at our extended menu! It consisted of the following dishes & news items:

- Starter of Old Amsterdam Cheese, Beef Sausage (ossenworst), pickeled onions, mustard & trash :) - 'Cleaners continue their strike in Amsterdam Central Station' 

- Starter of Steak Tartare of German steak with truffles - 'European Elections; choice between Europe of France or Europe of Germany'

- Starter Argentinian Beef with mushrooms and a red wine sauce (that you can eat with your hands) - 'Mayor of Amstelveen was touching Queen Maxima's behind'

- Salad with goat cheese, apple & beet - 'Apple pays 3.2 bilion for Beats' 

- Risotto with (goat cheese) - 'Chunnel between France and England celebrates 20th birthday' (because 'Tunnel de chevre affine sur bois' which is a type of goat cheese was offered as a gift to the queen of England in celebration of the opening of the Chunnel)

- Cake with red fruits - 'Cake to Bake by Latvia on the European Song Festival'

- 'Happily ever after'- cake with 15 year old whisky - '15 year celebration of  <3 Claudia & Hero being together (and happily ever after, of course :) but also 'May 5th celebration of Liberation of The Netherlands' (because this chocolate cake contains onion which was the most important vegetable during the war in The Netherlands) This was a very odd, slightly savory and special taste! Surely something to try if you can.

Homemade Nutella <3 

The quilty pleasure of all foodies: Nutella. Karlijn (@karlijn) brought this delicous homemade nutella to one of the Culinerds today. What a great way to start the week! 

The original recipe is a secret. Karlijn used an existing recipe and simply replaced cacao by raw cacao. It tastes amazing, even better (= more nutty, sticky and less sweet) than the real thing. Awesome!
