... Maybe that's technically true, but a) who's gonna know, and b) who's gonna stop you?

I’m always smug about how I’ve never read or watched Harry Potter and only really know like five things about it that I’ve learned completely against my will, but now... Eh, nothing has changed. I just feel smugger about feeling smug about it is all. :)
Also, JKR doesn’t speak for me, or for other autistic GNC women and girls, or for autistic trans men/transmasc people.
All I can say is that I have noticed that there are a lot of autistic trans people around, and... Why wouldn’t there be? Autistic people are often analytical, self-possessed, and march to their own drummer. And for better or for worse, we often learn that playing along is a zero-sum game for us. So, more likely to self-identify, and to come out! It’s not us being naive half-people being coerced or whatever, it’s our courage and uniqueness!
So don’t read her dumb blog post, because you won’t learn anything you’re not told every day by similarly ignorant people. Read blog posts by autistic and/or trans people, who have a lot of beautiful thoughts about how to survive and Be in our authoritarian, stifling world. Which is what we need in these times, and forever.
**UPDATE MESSAGE** 6/3/2020 - Please note that THIS is the only legal Gi… Tiffany Lee needs your support for OFFICIAL Gianna Floyd Fund (George Floyd's child)
if you can, share or donate to the official fund for george floyd’s 6 year old daughter. it was organized by the family’s legal team and shared by his best friend, so it’s legitimate. the least we can do is make sure his baby is set for life.
gonna start driving without license plates to honor the troops
FUCK. honestly just FUCK. We missed a very important day yesterday.
what was yesterday, cat?
I’m not missing it this year.
tl;dr, I was raised in a family that generally agreed with Mitch Hedberg: "Every book is a children's book, if the kid can read!"
And now that I'm an adult, I've extrapolated that to "every book can be an adult's book, if an adult enjoys it!"
All the fruits of language are for all of us. You won't enjoy everything you read, but assuming something is Not For You because of something as fake and profit-motivated as age-based marketing categories is just silly. Let's just fuck around and read something Interesting!
Like... By "read whatever you want," I'm not saying "go ahead and only read YA ever, your whole life"... Or at least I'm not, like, ONLY saying that. I'm saying, literally, WHATEVER YOU WANT. You can go ABOVE whatever you think your level is, too! Read that book with a weirdo experimental narrative style! Read that physics book, and if you don't understand it, read other physics books until it clicks! Read a picture book with beautiful illustrations, and read Silverstein because he was an extremely funny human! Read from textbooks and track down academic papers if you're curious about something! Read kidlit, because holy shit, in the whole "YA vs. Adult" argument, people seem to forget that books sold as kidlit are also full of really awesome worlds, characters, stories, etc. Try some comics/graphic novels/manga, even if you hadn't been into them before! Read a history book even if you were put off by history in school! Read a book of trivia, and look for sources for the facts to find other books to read! Read without feeling weird guilt or conflict over certain books being "light/heavy," "entertaining/serious," etc... If your interest is held and your mind is engaged, you are reading a fun, important, worthwhile book, no matter what kind of book it is!
...Or, you know, watch movies, shows, and documentaries if reading isn't your thing. That's what my dyslexic dad did for most of his life, and he's none the worse for wear. The whole point is that you're using your senses and mind to have an absorbing and interesting experience in this world, whatever that means for you.
Every time I watch people going through the "if you're an adult who reads more than the allotted amount of YA I deem permissible, you're stunted at best, creepy at worst, and probably stupid either way" vs. "OMG LET PEOPLE LIKE THINGS ALSO ALL ADULT BOOKS ARE BUMMERS" circlejerk, I can't help but feel like people are missing the true Hot Take...
...Which is that demographics were literally invented by slimy marketing suits to sell you shit. Rebel against our corporate overlords by reading whatever the fuck you want, chosen via normal channels like "internet scuttlebutt," "found a dilapidated copy for 50¢," "it was on the TVTropes page for a narrative quirk I like," "my friend is obsessed with it," or literally anything else that doesn't make assumptions about who might like what.
what is YOUR specific personal reason you shouldn’t be handed the aux? call urself out (in the tags or not. cmon this is public)

You know, if we're being honest, and faithful to what passes as canon even though There is No Canon, who IS Clef, if not an adult, anomalous Gene Belcher... With a gun.
