The first sensation Hannibal registered was the shock of the water that stole the breath from his lungs, as though a hand had reached through his chest and squeezed his lungs of the air. He gasped and panted looking for Will in the roiling dark heaving waters that threatened to bury them forever in their watery graves. He spied the other man bobbing up and down as he fought to keep his head up, Hannibal flung his arm out attempting to grab the other man, they would attempt to swim to shore and plan what they would do once there.
Hannibal’s hand seized a fistful of his shirt and with a firm hold, he started to swim, his lungs burning and his limbs freezing as he fought to keep blood pumping. “Will!” He shouted fighting to be heard over the water and the roaring wind.
Hannibal smiled as they slowly walked to the house together. “I will help us and then we can decide what we want to do. If you wish to leave me Will I won’t follow your or come after your wife and son I only ask that you do not confine me to a prison cell again.” The slog to the top of the cliff was exhausting and Hannibal often had to stop to let out ragged panting breath, clutching his side that was still slowly bleeding, the wound agitated from the fighting and the desperate swim to shore. He was stubborn though, he was determined to get to the top of the cliff to get the medication and stitches. “If you wish to come with me, we will need to leave soon so Jack does not find us” he whispered eyes desperate to shut and body sagging to sleep. He was sure Chiyoh was nearby and he hoped that she would be able to help them escape the FBI and find a safe house.
"Tell me that someone will help us. You're very hurt and so am I." He said and every step he took with Hannibal towards the house was for him as if he felt every single pain much more than ever before. He held on to Hannibal and after some time they had finally reached the house, his gaze went over the crime scene that both had caused and it was the first time he felt peace.
"Peace..." He murmured and looked at Hannibal, then he went on to the door and went in with him." We need something to treat our wounds. Do you feel yourself able to make it?" Will asked and when he was about to search the room for something what would help them, a woman suddenly entered the house and Will realized it was Chiyoh. He couldn't help but tense in that moment.
"Chiyoh.." Will said and looked at Hannibal.
"Hannibal, Will. I thought you both might need help?" And gave Hannibal a faint smile and pulled out what Will was searching to look over their wounds. "You both need my help and Hannibal knew I would always be here for him."

It hadn't been his plan to survive all this and yet fate had planned something else for him. His lungs were burning and he was trying to keep his head above the water as best he could. His head, his body, everything hurt. His thoughts, he was definitely confused for a moment, maybe it was the impact with the water or the fact that he had a lot of wounds. Will tried to concentrate but couldn't, and yet a question crept into his mind.
Had Hannibal survived too?
He didn't have much time when he suddenly felt that someone grabbed him and pulled him along. With every breath he took he was about to faint until he heard Hannibal's voice, or was he wrong? Whoever it was, Will let himself be drawn in, trying to speak against the volume of the waves.
"Hannibal?" He then asked anyway, since he wanted to know.
But he didn't have enough time to wait for an answer when he passed out.
Hannibal panted with exertion as he dragged Will and himself through the water, he could feel the darkness pulling at him, blissful relief from the pain if only he would allow himself to give up and sink into the roiling blackness. Hannibal fought the urge, kicking furiously as he dragged Will through the water until they washed up on the banks. He fell onto the dark sand gasping for breath, vomiting sea water as he tried to think tried to do anything but die.
“Will!” He said looking anxiously to the man he’d dragged unceremoniously through the water, he had heard a voice but he didn’t know if the other man was alive or not. “Will!” He shouted again, his voice scraping as if he had swallowed glass shards instead of water. Hannibal coughed up water trying to breathe and trying to think clearly. He knew they needed to go back to the house slowly up the cliff, get changed into clean dry clothes and handle their wounds, what they would do afterwards, he didn’t know. He didn’t know what Wills position was. Around them, the air was composed of freezing shards like needles burrowing into their skin.
What his position was, good question. He had honestly hoped both would not have survived this here, it had really been his wish, but fate simply had other plans with him. When he slowly came back to himself and realized that he was no longer in the water but had pain without end, he first spat the water that was still in his lungs. It burned, and his body signaled what his condition was. He urgently needed to close his wounds and be examined.
He looked slowly at Hannibal who looked very worried and slowly grabbed his hand. "I am alive. But I'm not feeling well, I feel that something is not okay." He could hardly speak, the wound on his cheek was huge and bleeding just like the other wounds. "We have to get out of here, help me get up." and closed his eyes as the pain threatened to make him faint again. He had had worse wounds in the past, Hannibal had caused it and even if it was different this time he still felt the repeat in it. Will definitely needed time to process what had happened and what the new path meant for them.
Hannibal nodded at Wills words and staggered to his feet, his bullet wound bleeding steadily. He stood by Wills side holding his hand to help him up, “we need to get back to the house I have medical supplies” he said hoarsely, “Will if you stand we can make it to the house and I will clean and stitch you I promise nothing bad will happen I won’t let it” he was earnest and fighting to stay on his feet, once both of them were stitched they could begin to plan. “You were beautiful my darling I have never seen something so beautiful as when you killed the great red dragon” Hannibal looked up trying to figure out where the house was and how to get there. He spied a set of stairs back up the cliff, it would be hard work for him and Will to get back to the house but it was their only chance.
Hannibal repeated his words, Will's last words before he pushed them both over the cliff. He followed his gaze and saw where both had to walk to reach the house. "Let's reach the house first, hope that Jack is not there and waiting for us there." then he took his hand and with Hannibal's help he pulled himself up on his feet. "We will talk and we will be fine again." it was the only promise he could give Hannibal at that moment.
It cost him so much strength but when he stood on his feet, he smiled even if it was even more painful and started to walk towards the path that led to the top.
"I know this was special, we'll see what it means for us, but the fact that I killed him with you makes me a murderer and I don't know anywhere else to go. We must stay together, it is our common path and I am by your side." He looked now into Hannibal's marron eyes.

Starter Call
#Solo | "The rebirth"
After both defeated the Red Dragon, Will felt this power flow through him. The blood of Francis Dolarhyde stuck to him like a second skin, covering his pores and yet he breathed in a new air. He sensed the change that had deepened his way through his system over the years. A change he never wanted to welcome, but here he was, his hands clenched tightly in Hannibal's sweater, he felt there too Dolarhyde’s blood mixed with Hannibal's.
"It's beautiful.." he said quietly and then heard Hannibal's words that touched him deeply.
Both had suffered deep wounds from the fight, wounds which now connected both deeper than ever before. He inhaled the smell around them, leaning against Hannibal's chest and closing his eyes. The moment he embraced what was happening around them, he felt free as never before. It had always been Hannibal, always he who embraced what had dwelt deep inside him, all those years. Where he was so blind until the moment came when he finally saw and felt it.
He knew why he was doing what happened next, because it was a symbol of a rebirth he only wanted with Hannibal at his side when they had the chance to live. Because if both survived, it was a fresh start he would welcome without ever questioning it. With a jerk he pulled both over the cliff, he was not afraid of death, because he was no longer alone.
Will felt no resistance from Hannibal, it was as if he felt the same at that moment. His arms now tight around him, he did not want to let him go, no separation even in death. What came was a new chapter and that had to be rewritten. The last thing Will thought when they were swallowed up by the sea and he was holding Hannibal for as long as he could and the strength was not leaving him,
"This is my gift to us. Our rebirth as a whole, you and me." And then the water flow tore Hannibal away from him and he felt his heart almost tearing. The sudden emptiness. Something he had never felt before. Then he lost consciousness.

#Solo | #Hannibal | "What happened if?"
Sometimes Will Graham had those thoughts. What if he had not met Hannibal? It was a question that sometimes kept him awake at night, a question where sometimes he did not dare to look at it and yet he was awake again. Next to him Hannibal, sleeping soundly. The breath was steady and had a calming effect normally on him, but not this night. A restlessness was in him and gave his thoughts free rein.
Pictures showed him with his dogs as he walked with them through the forest. It made a smile on his lips and then another picture appeared as he stood and taught at the university. His life was never easy, but the time there was less stressful for him.
This here and now, a life with a cannibal with whom he had experienced so much. Pain, suffering, longing, desire and love. Nobody would ever understand why he chose this life over what he could have had. If he thought back, would he make the same decisions again? Yes, he would, but maybe somewhere he would go out less with suffering. How much he missed Abigail. The thought and the images that followed produced a soft painful sigh from his lips. Hopefully, Hannibal did not wake up because he did not want to tell him which demons were haunting him. Elsewhere it was Hannibal who understood him best.
Slowly he turned his head to the sleeping Hannibal and he felt a tear roll over his cheek. His chest tightened and more tears rolled down his cheek. He did not want to wake him and stood up quietly and left the common bedroom, he had to catch himself again. ‘What happened if’ had to be deeply buried, at least to a point. He had to accept his decision. Hannibal needed him and he needed Hannibal. No separation.
After a while in the kitchen with a glass of whiskey, he returned to the common bedroom and lay next to Hannibal. Slowly he moved closer to him and hugged him. His demons were silent for the first time when he finally fell asleep.
