You were used to his -its- presence. Sort of.

The Cyberlife model your roommate Ramsay had gotten shifted aimlessly in the kitchen, cleaning another pile of junk food he’d left sitting out on the counter. You could see the fine print on the back of its neck, underneath the unkempt hair Ramsay never bothered or ordered it to groom. Model: AX400. Name on file: Theon. Name given: Reek. Assigned function: Domestic server.

Sometimes it tried to help you, insisting on doing the housework and cleaning the stains on your clothes from work. Its movements were precise, not wasting any energy, just a quiet, annoying buzz in the background. He was certainly worth the money, but the LED on the side of his head sometimes cycled on its own, a warning yellow differing from the normal blue over seemingly nothing.

Eventually, it began assisting you unprompted, trying to get close to you in the way a scared animal sniffs at your hand for food. You had no idea how it knew how you liked your coffee, or your signs of stress, it just… Knew.

At some point, you began calling it Theon, calling him a he and not an it. His given model name, not the cruel Reek nickname your roommate hissed at him for simply doing his job. That was the first time you saw a hint of something different. Something off.

Sometimes, you caught him staring in the mirror. He had a blank, almost fearful looking expression on, his LED cycling yellow to red as he processed... Something. When prompted, he went back to loitering as usual.

He'd been peeking around corners at you recently. Not enough for you to catch and confront, but you felt it.
