ddnyl - dream don’t need your love
[ after they all faced a heartbreak of somesort, 6 friends come together to be each other’s strength in the hardest times they’d have to face ]
na jaemin faced the doors so the activities center, debating whether or not to walk through them.
ahead of him was a chance of a new start, something he’d been longing for.
inside, about to meet was the DNYL club, which stood for ‘don’t need your love.’ evidently it was a club for heartbroken college students to bond with other heart broken college students. of course it didn’t seem ideal at first, but jaemin grew desperate with his attempts to get over his ex girlfriend who has recently cheated on him. no matter how much jaemin tried to stay strong, he couldn’t deny the fact that he was hurting. bad.
his feet grew impatient with his mind and walked forwards for him, leaving jaemin no chance to turn back as they rushed into the room where the meeting was being held.
“hello there! what’s your name?” a smooth voice asked. it almost took him by suprise, he didn’t realize he really had walked through the doors.
“j-jaemin,” he stuttered.
“hello jaemin. i’m lucas,” the smooth voice belonged to a tall boy with a welcoming face. “sit down, we’re just about to begin.”
jaemin walked over to a circle of chairs. it looked like some kind of group therapy session, but he quickly realized that’s basically what it would be.
“what did i get myself into,” he muttered.
as everyone sat down, he found himself in between a girl with bright red hair, and a boy. he couldn’t make anything out specifically about him, but he stayed quiet.
“hello,” jaemin said quickly. might as well make friends, and this red haired girl isn’t cutting my taste right now.
the boy looked at him with soft, sparking eyes. “hello,” he said and turned back away.
okay, so maybe i won’t make friends.
“INITIATION!” the smooth voice, lucas, called loudly.
jaemin was startled by the sudden speech coming from someone who he thought was nice and quiet.
“we have some new memebers today, everybody please welcome jaemin and renjun!” lucas called out, clapping.
jaemin and renjun (who happened to be the boy sitting next to him) were both obviously nervous by the welcoming party.
“please stand, and tell us something about yourself.” a girl next to lucas chimed in.
since renjun wasn’t budging, jaemin stood up as a volunteer.
“my name is na jaemin, i’m a sophomore and i like photography,” he answered, and sat back down for renjun to move on.
“my name is huang renjun, i’m also a sophomore and i like reading i guess.” renjun managed to get his introduction over with in record timing, leaving everyone speechless on what to do next.
“thank you boys,” lucas replied. “so for our activity of the day, grab the hands of the people sitting next to you.”
everyone in the circle obeyed, linking hands all around.
“now stand up and get tangled.”
without an answer, everyone started moving around, resulting in a big ball of tangled students.
jaemin ended up face to face with renjun somehow, and took the opportunity to re-introduce himself.
“you can’t turn away from me now.”
“you’re definitely right.”
“AH PERFECT,” lucas yelled. “now un-tangle yourselves.”
jaemin and renjun groaned at the mission. it didn’t even seem possible at this time.
once again, the mess of people started to move around, some going as far as stepping over pairs of arms to complete the task.
after what seemed like ages, the ball wasn’t a ball anymore, and only a few more people had to walk back to their spots to finish.
“wasn’t that fun?” lucas asked.
lucas half smiled and countinued to let everybody release their hands.
“i would say we can talk about feelings and stuff today but it’s FRIDAY! go out and party or something please...snacks are on the way out, next meeting is monday at 4!” he finished.
without planning it, jaemin and renjun walked at the same pace to the exit.
“you have some sweaty hands,” renjun said out of nowhere.
“yeah, don’t worry though. secrets safe with me.”
“your hands aren’t exactly dry, either.”
“but the difference is yours were like palm-swimming pools.”
jaemin couldn’t help but laugh at the funny comparison.
“haha, okay.” he replied. “hey, you’re coming to the next meeting i assume?”
“i wasn’t planning on it, this wasn’t exactly helpful.” renjun sulked. jaemin could feel his heart speed up through his chest, contracting sudden hurt for his new acquaintance.
“oh, yeah. i think today was special though, maybe? cause it’s friday. i’m guessing lucas wants us to go out and party our feelings away.”
“that’s kind of a last-resort for me.” renjun laughed.
“and just how close are you to considering it?”
“you know what, i know some friends that are hosting a party tonight. i wasn’t going to go, but it might help both of us out,” jaemin proposed.
“i don’t know...i’m not the type.”
“everyone’s the type. you’re going to say this and then get drunk off of a couple shots. come and forget your problems, wasn’t that what you were here for?”
“i came here to help resolve my problems, but your offer looks better than that.”
“so is that a yes?” jaemin asked, suddenly confident in his achievement.
“yeah, whatever. just give me your number.” renjun replied.
