The Mad Hatter||Remmy and Saoirse
As usual, Remmy left the decision of dinner up to her. Saoirse was more familiar with the restaurants around London anyhow. She had always frequented them since her own cooking skills left much to be desired. They could both live without eating charred food, especially when the cozy little Italian place up the block delivered. It was far from gourmet and she imagined Amico would scoff at the commercialized Italian food, but Remmy would be more than thankful for it. She was always such a little dear. Saoirse had not expected to take a liking to the girl, but it was hard not to when she and Cassius were both so doting and loving. Even if their admiration was falsely rooted in some belief that she was a good and helpful person it still brought a certain sense of happiness to her. She was only human after all and what person did not enjoy the feeling of being adored? It was hard for her to properly reciprocate this adoration and love they possessed, but she got by. Remmy had grown on her more than she would have expected, but it was hard to care very much even though it became clearer and clearer that Remmy was not suited for Wolfram and Hart. She could at least rationalize that Remmy was a good ally to have which made their arrangement a bit more acceptable in her mind.
Since it had been a while since they had worked on her powers, Saoirse softly suggested, “Why don’t we start with some simple meditating?” Remmy had agreed as was to be expected. This was their usual routine so they took their respective spots on the floor settling into the plushy beige carpet that lined it. Saoirse let her eyes flutter shut so she could relax into meditation. Normally slipping into a calm meditative state was simple for her, but after the hellish week of nightmares it felt too much like trying to fall asleep. Though outwardly she would not show as much, the week of nightmares had taken its toll. Normally it was easy enough for her to not think of what happened with her parents, but after a week of being plagued with nightmares that forced her to relive the moment over and over again. It had made her feel a bit darker and caused her more angry feelings to resurface. They still lingered as she tried to slip into a meditative state and the darkness overtook her blank mind.
She was soon drawn out of her meditative state by a ring on the door bell. Her eyes flew open and she realized she had let her guard down a bit too much. It seemed as if Remmy had not noticed, but she knew letting her own darkness simmer to the surface could raise a number of questions she was not entirely prepared to answer. She stood up and eagerly went to answer the door. The distraction would hopefully crush any weirdness that was hanging in the air. Saoirse shoved a wad of cash off on the man and he was on his merry way. She brought the food back over to the coffee table and went off to the kitchen to grab some plates and silverware. Her steps were slower as she tried to shake away the last of the remaining anger that still seemed to cling to her, but it seemed to be of no use. Perhaps she should have rescheduled. It was hard to keep her bright and cheery aura going when something was pricking at the darkness beneath it all.
She sat back down on the ground and gave Remmy a soft smile. Outwardly she knew she seemed back to normal, but there was a good chance Remmy had still picked up on the darkness she was usually able to stifle. There was no use in thinking about it though, it only made it more likely that Remmy would find her out so she cleared her head a bit and took a bit of the raviolis she had ordered. She had been sure to get all vegetarian food for Remmy’s sake even though she usually preferred the meat sauce. She let out a soft “mm” and said, “So it’s not the best Italian food around, but still delicious, right?” The curious glance she was receiving worried her. Odds were she had already blown this. She simply could not shake off the worry now and knew it was bringing everything else to surface. Had this been a different week, maybe her control would be better. It almost always was. She was used to having her mind and aura read, but that was usually at work where she had nothing to hide. This was different. She swallowed down a bite of food trying to keep the conversation as normal as possible. “When we finish eating, we can return to the meditating again and really get started for the day.”
Her suspicion of Saoirse's strange aura only rose when she got up to get the food. There was a clear block in place, but there were holes in it, Remmy could feel them. The more concerning thing was that Saoirse felt the need to block anything from her-- didn't she trust Remmy not to pry into her private thoughts and memories? Apparently not. A tight feeling wound in her chest, making her feel not so hungry anymore. It wasn't a feeling she was all too familiar with, but she did know what it was. It was anxiety-- she was getting nervous again. Never before had she ever gotten nervous, but since coming to London, it'd happened quite a few times. She wasn't sure she liked it all too much, but normal people experienced nervous and anxiety on almost the daily. Maybe this was just a part of her becoming more like the people around her; maybe it was her finally fitting into a place she'd never felt she belonged.
Looking back over at Saoirse as she prepared the food in the kitchen, Remmy lifted herself slowly from the ground, still keeping her mind open, watching Saoirse's aura closely. She made sure to not make it look too obvious-- it would do her no good to alert Saoirse of her prying. Curiosity was one thing Remmy was all too familiar with, and despite it probably being a huge invasion of Saoirse's privacy, she wanted to know so badly what it was she was hiding from her. Because it was most definitely a curious thing.
Remmy joined Saoirse back on the floor as they each took a plate and helped themselves to some ravioli and salad. Saoirse had been kind enough to order vegetarian just for Remmy, and she smiled, thanking her kindly. “So it’s not the best Italian food around, but still delicious, right?” Remmy shrugged and smiled.
"Well, considering I haven't exactly had much Italian food in my life, it's quiet good," she agreed, nodding. Since coming to London, she'd tried many new foods, all ones she was delighted to eat. Each time she tried something new, it reminded her of the afternoon she'd formally met Cassius-- she remembered watching him put the finishing touches on his pastries like those very ones were his life's work. Such detail and care, all for something that was going to be eaten anyway. It was such a wonderful thing to watch. Plopping a few more ravioli's on her plate, she prodded one with her fork and listened to what Saoirse was saying, although not really hearing it. Instead, she was listening to Saoirse's thoughts. Feeling her aura. Prodding the wall that was already crumbling in Saoirse's head.
A sudden darkness rose up between them and Remmy jumped, dropping her fork. It was strangling her, it was so heavy. So black. So thick with dark feelings. She scrambled up, staring at Saoirse with wide eyes. "I...I, umm..." she gripped the edges of the couch tightly. "I should..." glanced at the door. "I should go. I shold probably-- because I have class a-and..." she scurried around the couch, staring at Saoirse still with wide, hazel eyes, as if Saoirse were going to leap up and stab her with the fork in her hand, still covered in sauce. She swallowed taughtly. "I...
"Is that....really you?"
