As a disabled person instead of people saying "i hope you get better soon!" I would much rather here any of these:

"I hope you can rest soon."

"I hope you have a good day soon."

"I hope the pain lowers soon."

Saying "i hope you get better soon!" Sounds like "i have never interacted with a disabled person, i have no idea what to say to in this situation so i will say the thing i think im supposed to say."

We are not going to get better in the way you assume.

Be more genuine with us. Treat us like any other person.

I feel like we’re not on the same page about wheelchair users, so let’s go over some basic facts:

- some wheelchair users can walk and/or stand, these people are called ambulatory wheelchair users

- some wheelchair users cannot walk or stand, these people are called non ambulatory wheelchair users

- some wheelchair users use their chair full time

- some wheelchair users use their chair part time

- some full time wheelchair users are ambulatory

- not all wheelchair users are paralyzed

- not all paralyzed people are wheelchair users, paralysis is a spectrum

- paralysis isn’t the only reason to be non ambulatory

- not all wheelchair users have problems with their legs

how come if you say "i get sick every time i eat gluten" its "you should stop eating gluten then" and if you say "i get sick every time i go swimming" its "you maybe shouldnt go swimming anymore then" but if you say "i get sick every time i push my body to be 'on' for long enough to work a job" its "well i dont believe you thats stupid that shouldnt happen to people. and even if youre not lying and that does happen to you i think you should just keep working because otherwise youre useless and im sure its not that bad" ??

They should require an actual wheelchair user to come test if a place is actually accessible before they are allowed to call it wheelchair accessible

Honestly, any and all public buildings need to be tested by multiple people with different disabilities and mobility aids. Not every wheelchair is the same proportionally, so, ideally, you'd have at least one person with a slim chair and another person with a bulkier chair test it, and have multiple wheelchair and mobility aid users in the [BUILDING] at the same time because multiple disabled people deserve to enter and exist comfortably and easily in places at the same time.

im sorry that it can often feel like you are wasting precious time in your life to your illness, that you had to pass on opportunities, or that you feel that you are falling behind because of it. your life is not any less valuable because you spend so much of it sick and don’t feel as successful as you wish and haven’t experienced as much as you wanted to because of it. but it is no less hurtful to want things for yourself while not being able to have them. its hard to live as you want when being sick takes so much of your time, of your energy, of your life, and it’s okay to grieve over the things you have lost or had to pass or give up on because you have an illness.

Defend disabled people who aren't only making the healthiest possible choices forever. We need to stop holding the people with the least resources to the highest standards of health. We need to stop pointing fingers at disabled people who aren't even doing anything your average abled person isn't also doing.
